Bill!! This was ... SUPERB! I loved your descriptions, especially the anecdotes about the square peg-board and the roll of anti-static foam. This workshop is a joy to behold. Obviously, your colour matching with available tools is profoundly impressive. (This parenthetical note is NOT a criticism - but a little observation for other viewers who were struck by hearing "workshop" seemingly every six seconds in the first two minutes: When I noticed that, I restarted the video, typed "0+1" on my calculator and pressed "=" every time I heard the word. I'm not sure that I heard every utterance of the word, while concentrating on the content, but my count was 46 by the end! Gotta love Bill!)

Great works! Very inspiring setup, but I just Can't afford to rent an apartment large enough to build even a modest workshop. But I make projects anyway. I use my living room and take out from the closet just what I need at a time. Not very convenient but it does the job. I watched at least 10 of your very well made tutorials. Not only they are excellent and very easy to follow, but your vedeos are also edited in a very professional way! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Probably this is the first video of your's I watched. I have to say I am very impressed by your workshop. You did it by almost the same key concepts as I am currently developing mine (like separating mech and lab areas, etc). Clever ideas and the attentiom to detail in everything, especially in the color control is awesome! Needless to say, I love blue. 😉 I like the ton of drawer boxes too! You said you drill only PCBs, however my idea would be to make some curtain or some kind of movable panels around the drill press, so the chips won't fly everywhere, inside things, in the PSU, the tablet, etc. But I drill a lot of metals and various plastics, many times with coolant, so the amount of mess without a curtain is beyond crazy here. Even if you just drill PCBs, it would marginally lower the amount of dust everywhere. BTW, I also did the ceiling myself, it is certainly possible to do alone with some forethought, and I still finished faster than when I would have to beg to somebody to come help.

Awesome! Love your videos! I am inspired to have a similar workshop. What would you do differently? if you had to do it again?
@Dronebotworkshop
@Dronebotworkshop 5 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you're inspired Max, it makes it all worthwhile to hear that. As for "if I could do it again" it depends upon how much space I had. If I built it again in a similar sized room there really isn't much I would change. But if I had a larger area I would have tried to get my scope and test equipment onto the "electronics workbench". I had actually hoped to do that, one thing that I didn't point out was another surface-mount AC outlet that I put on the far left side of that workbench for plugging in test equipment. I also shortened a standard AC cord for use with the scope, and I do use that arrangement wghen I drag the scope to the workbench. Back in the 80's when I worked as a technician I had a scope right on the workbench, alomng with a few meters. It was nice to always have it handy.

Yes sir Bill you are a neet fellow.. you are also a neat fellow.. I love your little workshop. You and my wife must be somehow related.. she had me build her a little office.. She has put enough things in her office to fill a two bedroom house.. she is so organized and neat I often kid her about the 8 square inches of space she has left in there.. It is like being in a small radio room in one of the old diesel subs like the bonefish or something.. Oh YEAH! what a scruffy looking fellow.. I was a carpenter for 30 years and I really like to watch talented people building for the first time.. You can build my friend.. or should I say billed.. oh I crack myself up...thanks so much for the share Bill and please carry on..

I like the way, when on the video about AC devices controlled, you were talking many times about safety with high voltage .... on this video i can see your electric drill standing up high, and on the table's edge under it, there is mounted an electric extension bar .... -- when you drilling, maybe small metal particles dropping down .... -- sometimes we need to cool down the drill bit with oily water splashing widely .... It is not any personal, only my reflection .... Thank you for so many videos full of informations, practical experience you have, thank you, i am learning so much from you. I would like to ask you, is it possible to sometimes make a video of Q/A ? .... when we have some questions, from our comments, something more specific to explain ?? It would be very interesting, and you could say more about some problems .... I just started my journey through the Ros Pi, really i am feeling lost what to buy first, there is so many different boards, clones, how to start and plan the projects, how to program these devices, some of them has installed OS, another maybe not but uploaded program to the microcontroller .... Many other KZbinrs say different stories, maybe from their experience, but for example one says Pico is lovely, another one says Pico is nothing special because ESP32 is super :-)) I am sure there are other problems to express any opinion, but for new people it is not easy to make choice what to do in the first months .... I am really very happy that i have subscribed your channel and always i watch your videos very carefully .... Thx

Yes! I have done lots of ceiling sheetrock work - by myself, too. I built homes for a living for a few years. I always thought it was interesting how on snow days, I was the only one capable of getting to the job site. Well, when your family needs money to live, you just do it! I made several innovative jigs to help me get the rock into place and braced up flat and positioned and soon, one screw at a time, it was up. Oh, well. I started serious working life in a sign shop as a sign mechanic, graduated to the electrician, then to welder, then to fabricator, then to sheet metal shop, helper, then foreman- I was on my way to being a true artisan. I ended up as a field supervisor, crane operator and sign erector. Have you ever walked around on top of a 120' tall, lighted highway sign? Some fun and great views. I quit one day and started my own construction business- and finally retired some years later. Yet, I was never disciplined enough or patient enough to keep a well-organized shop, as you have created and maintained. I really, really respect that. I could not tell you how many shops I have neatly organized with high hopes of efficiency and neatness and as soon as the first jobs came in, it all turned into Hell's messiest shops. It takes a very dedicated person to end a 14 hour day and still have enough energy to put everything back to order, sweep up and throw away the scrap. I ruined my best intentions by thinking I needed to keep the slightest leftovers _ "Hmm...I Might need that someday!". I think the best rule anyone could follow is to get rid of anything that is not used or used up at least once a month. Anyway, your mental discipline shows up in both your shop and your most excellent teaching. God bless you, Bill- You are truly an inspiration.
