Be Myself, Further Temptations
Emerging during the burgeoning Manchester punk scene of 1976, The Drones soon established themselves on the wider punk circuit . Their first single was released on their own label in 1977, and sold over 10,000 copies. They were subsequently signed to Valer Records and their second single, 'Bone Idol', shifted twice as many copies as the debut. The band toured exhaustively, supporting the likes of The Stranglers and garnering plenty of good press along the way. By the end of the seventies the punk scene had all but imploded, however The Drones penchant for raw energy more or less guaranteed them a place in the hearts of the punk second wavers, securing them a permanent place in punk rock history.
This film contains footage recorded at three concerts during 1996. The first two are taken from the now legendary Holidays In The Sun punk rock birthday celebrations at Blackpool's Winter Gardens, when the band were asked to do an unprecedented second performance by popular demand. It may well have been twenty years on but The Drones had lost none of their powerful edge and are still remembered as one of the biggest crowd pleasers at that very special weekend. The third is from Bath Pavilion later in the same year.
