The Xioami Mi 4k drone is quite a considerable upgrade from its predecessor, and even a few months later it handles just like in the beginning.

I'm pretty satisfied with how the app works too, but I feel like it could be improved a little.
Overall, the range, stability and image quality are all absolutely stunning for this price.
In conclusion: Xioami MI 4k is a must buy, especially if you're on a budget!

I also fly a Xiaomi Mi Drone 4k. Like you, I got it from Gearbest. It was on a flash sale for $400 and I somehow came across a $60 coupon code, which brought the price down to $340! I have no idea how often a deal like that might happen. In my opinion, your review and thoughts on the Mi Drone are spot-on! I have only two complaints about the Mi Drone: The camera gimbal tilt, which I hope is fixed soon in a firmware update (I knew about the tilt issue when I purchased the drone, but I didn't think it would bother me. I was wrong). The other problem is one day the motors inexplicably wouldn't start. The Xiaomi drone is actually made by a company called Fimi. Fortunately, I found Fimi's customer support to be outstanding! I was back in the air in a couple of days. The drone needed a different firmware install. The fix would have happened sooner, I'm sure, if Fimi wasn't half a world away. My contact at Fimi was asleep when I was awake and vice-versa, so that slowed down communication. I've heard some Mi Drone flyers complain about a jello effect in their videos, but I haven't seen it in my drone -- and the fix appears to be a simple Macgyver procedure. I believe DJI should have brought the Mi Drone to market as a budget professional model. I bet the Mi Drone would have much more market success if it was the exact same drone with a DJI label on it, but I'm personally glad it's not from DJI. I tend to root for underdogs! This drone doesn't have all the bells and whistles, such as follow-me features and object avoidance, but I feel not having those things makes me a pilot rather than a hobbyist. The Xiaomi Mi Drone 4k is priced only a bit more than a toy, but it delivers video like a full-fledged pro. The way I see it, the difference between a pro and a toy drone is the pro can switch between GPS and ATTI modes, offers a 4k (or better) camera with FPV built-in, has 3-axis camera gimbal stabilization, brushless motors, and DOES NOT offer a flip-in-the-air feature! What would make the Mi Drone a perfect drone in today's world? Fix the camera gimbal tilt issue! Refine the app a bit and allow me to get in the air faster. And the ultimate change: Allow me to someday soon replace the camera with one that shoots 4k at 60fps. 2k at 60fps on the current camera sure is nice, but having the same option at 4k would be a game changer for the Mi Drone! By the way, do you know the Mi Drone offers a live RSTP video stream via wi-fi? That's just full of awesome sauce, isn't it? The Xiaomi Mi Drone 4k is one of the best recreational investments I've ever made in my life! Just ask my beautiful wife -- who feels quite neglected.

I didn't think $340 warranted a warranty, so I didn't even bother to look into whether or not a warranty is available. Fortunately, Fimi, the actual Mi Drone manufacturer, was quick to respond when I had my only problem to date with my drone -- when the motors wouldn't start. Fast response (as fast as possible for being half way around the globe), and their fixed worked brilliantly! I think we both deserve pats on our back for finding our drones for $340! Go team 340!

Bob what is RSTP, and can I record to my phone while I fly, I have plenty of mem on it.and how do you record from the cam to the lap top..what program do i need to reconise the drone cam..will windows film maker work?

Hello Allen! RSTP = Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol. Makes perfect sense, right? rstp is simply a protocol that's often used to stream live media. In this case, you can see live streaming video from the Mi Drone 4k. The Mi Drone has an rstp server built-in and it spits out its live feed via wi-fi! The address is: rtsp://192.168.100.10:554/live. One of the best ways to view the feed is to use the VLC open source media player. VLC is free and available on all Windows, Android and Linux platforms forms for sure. I don't use Apple products very often, but I'm pretty sure you can get VLC from the Apple store. Whichever device you use, to view its rstp stream, you must first login to the Mi Drone's wi-fi network -- which means you do have to use the Mi Drone's wi-fi dongle on the RC. Some Mi Drones are shipped with the dongle, some are shipped with prop guards instead. Either way, the dongle costs only 5-10 bananas (USD) if you have to purchase it separately. I have to turn off mobile data on my phone to use the Mi Drone's wi-fi network, but I've heard that's not the case for everyone. Once you're properly connected via wi-fi, you're all set to punch the RSTP address into VLC -- and Bob's your uncle -- you're watching live camera video from the Mi Drone! Sorry -- I love that saying! Now, to record that feed -- I can't think of a reason you'd want to! The video the camera records -- up to 4k quality -- is to a micro SD card, which is much, much, much better than recording a low bit-rate stream that sometimes breaks up. I'd like very much to know if I'm missing a good reason to record the stream. That being said (written), besides seeing the rstp stream via VLC, you can use the same media player to record that stream -- at least I know that to be true on a Windows device. Not sure about other platforms. Using Windows, record commands are displayed under the Playback tab. Click "Record" to record the stream and click "Stop" to stop recording -- that's all there is to it! You might want to use your Google machine to learn how to record an rstp live stream via VLC on other platforms. Here's my set-up: I purchased a ZTE Axon M phone, which has two identically sized fold-out screens that can operate independently of each other. One of my screens displays that rstp feed from my Mi Drone. The other screen displays and runs the Mi Drone app. That configuration works great -- and it's a PERFECT use case for people who poo-poo the Axon M's foldable screen feature as something that's no more than just a gimmick! All I need to do now is attach a tablet holder to my Mi Drone RC because the Axon M phone is as large as a small tablet when its screens are folded out. The built-in holder on the Mi Drone RC only accommodates a typical phone sized device. I'm currently researching for the best tablet mount to do that. I hope that answers your questions, Allen! You got prop guards instead of a wireless dongle. The latter is more useful to general public. 7:23 Looks like the infamous gimbal tilt.

I agree that might have been useful. But a cable is not a big problem for me. Also that gimbal tilt can be easily adjusted with a simple setting. I just didn't see it at the time.

DronesGator Reading RCGROUPS results on gimbal tilt, it doesn't seem so simple. There's a recalibration involved, usually by fooling it via an offset using a book. It then sometimes comes back.

Mine seems to have been fixed easier. It would suck if that would be the case in general. But I think you can tilt the video a little in post-processing, especially if you record in 4k.

If the USB and micro SD card slots were on the gimbal base then you wouldn't be able to detach it for the handheld gimbal.
