A tuning has always been my favourite because imo it’s the lowest you can go before powerchords on the lowest string start sounding too muddy. Oh, and amazing video as usual dude.
@dimitrijespasic4736 ай бұрын
Honestly Enterprise Earth made power chords insanely good sounding even though they played some songs in Drop D1 on an 8 string.
@JoshMIW6 ай бұрын
In my opinion you can go down to drop g for open power chords to still sound good, maybe even f# if you’re careful with your tone, but with palm muted power chords you can easily go down to drop d#1 and still sound fine
@_Stroda6 ай бұрын
It depends entirely upon the music someone is trying to make though, doesn't it? Sometimes muddy is the intention. The issue I have with down tuning isn't the down tuning its self. It's that so many people clearly just down tune because they've bought into the idea that lower = heavier. And that lower + generic riffs (somehow) = better/heavier riffs. Which is nonsense. And leads to really bland music that, in my view, really isn't 'heavy'.

My 7 is always in Drop A, but it never sounds this good. I just can't figure it out. Any advice from anyone?
@Hagashii6 ай бұрын
based around my experience overall I'd say to lower the gain till it sounds enough, get some cool IRs (even free ones are great, also feel free to use multiple IRs at the same time for the same riff. has some cool effects but use it consciously), add multiple layers to your track and probably the most effective way is context. like adding some drums over it and syncing it, it's actually insane on how much impact context does to a song
@Hagashii6 ай бұрын
oh yeah also try messing around EQ on the guitar amp if you're using an virtual one. in case you aren't then im not sure if those tips could help you at all

Yeah man its a sick tuning. My 7 is only 25.5 so it cant go lower than drop A without sounding like ass so i have come to love it. Adding a pitch shifter for heavier parts and it SLAPS.

@@TheBanana93 I mean you can tune a 25.5" 7 string lower, I did that for drop G when I started learning some Lorna Shore riffs, but I got now a 26.5" guitar

@@alexr6913 You can indeed but i guess its not set up right because its like a floppy noodle of i go any lower lol. Tuned my B to G# and it sounds alright but just doesn't cut it. Gonna get a cort fan fret 27" -25.5" this year hopefully then i can go disgustingly low 🤣

Yeah the tuning was pioneered by geroge van epps in the 30s or 40s, and he played a lot of jazz in drop A. Just like allan holdsworth started shredding improv jazz to the point that it inspired EVH to put it in his "heavyier" music. Poop stinks no matter who drops it. Some people put it in the toilet and flush, some let it fall out their mouth while making a foolish mess of themselves.
