I sold my 58x's because they have a 5db dip in the highs, it was slight but it made everything sound slightly rolled off or lacking animation. The dip in these headphones is almost 11db's. from my experience it's not necessarily where the dip is, but that there's a dip at all, as your brain is essentially charged with accounting for the change in movement of the curve. And 11db, especially to anyone bothered to mix/master is an utter cavern.

Nothing at this level is practical or “good value for money” imo. The law of diminishing returns is real. And if you’re talking gaming, that ceiling hits around the $200-$300 mark. If money were no issue, I’d game in the 800 S, but its too much for me to justify spending on headphones.

Indeed sober review of the HD8xx. Hell even the HD800S might be the holy grail for FPS shooters, but they ain't worth the asking price compared to my 157€/186$ Beyer TYGR 300R (taxes+shipping included!) or a 200$ HD560S. They are not 10 times better. IMHO past the 200-300$ tier there are steep diminishing returns for gaming audio. Plus 8xx being 300 ohm impedance vs 32 ohm they NEED a decent entry level amp/dac stack like Schitt Magni 3+/ Heresy plus Modi3, Atom +, Zen2 or Schitt hell/Mayflower Arc Mk2 dac/amp. So I got a GOXLR, would this headset be good with it and sound like the 800s? trying to upgrade from my HD700 and don't really know where to go.
@dannybos70243 жыл бұрын
No. Go for the HD800S and a proper amp/DAC setup.
@stelar99993 жыл бұрын
@@dannybos7024 Ye after some research I am definitely going with the HD800S but idk about buying a AMP/DAC. I only really use it for gaming.

Same. Crinacle is definitely the side I'm on with this instance. DMS and metal571 are also of the opinion that these are just fucking terrible lol.
