I used to work at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and one year we had some issues with certain tubes and rider configurations not clearing the slides on the Crush 'n' Gusher attraction (a water coaster where jets propel riders uphill in tubes). I weigh approximately 100 lbs so I volunteered to ride test. Turns out riders who don't weigh a lot sometimes don't make it through the slide as fast as the slide wants them to, leading to an emergency stop because the slide thinks the rider is trapped somewhere in the valleys. We had to disallow single riders on some of the slides because of this.

@@astaregod HEy there. For our blue aqua loop, we do have a rider weight minimum requirement of 99lbs. This is for the same reason, so they create enough centrifugal force to make the top loop. I may have the wrong force in mind... please correct me if i'm wrong.

When looking into the lower egress of the loop slide when the water was shut off, I found the answer to how they keep water from pooling in the low spot before the loop. There are hundreds, if not a thousand little holes at the bottom that drain into a catch basin under the flume, but there are so many and they are so small the rider's back doesn't get scratched by them. I've heard the typical "failed" rider extraction ratio is ten from the lower egress for one from the upper (loop top) egress. It's actually interesting they need an upper egress at all because a rider would only need to push themselves a bit one way or the other to get out of the top of the loop. But I guess if someone becomes completely terrified they could 'freeze'.

How does a loop stay wet? Seems like the water would pool in the bottom of the loop and then you would have water flowing in the opposite direction of the rider.
@josephbennett34823 жыл бұрын
Gravity is what causes the water to flow endlessly , the steep drop forces the water through the slide just like a kitchen sink or a bathtub drain.
@HighTechLab3 жыл бұрын
@@josephbennett3482 showers and kitchen sinks have a p-trap that stays filled with water completely to seal off any sewer gases. I want to know how this loop does not become a p-trap and fill up with water

@@HighTechLab just like i mentioned before , the gravity prevents the water from collecting in one part of the slide. There's also probably no uphill climb where the loop is so it's most definitely just a straight high speed run down through the slide all the way to the end.
