you have to get in touch with the emotion label them let them pass they will on their own. see the emotion under the symptom. Don’t see the symptom as a problem at all. I’ve got a group course on Wednesdays where we go through the somatic practice of this if you wanna join in to learn more. Just go to my website to sign up

Yeah just do your best to open up to what’s there a lot of people have a lot of strong emotions because of their past in history and they feel like they can’t handle it but the truth is you can just do your best to open up as much as you can and allow whatever is there to move through you

There you go that’s the answer he need to take control and see the symptoms as being benign don’t react to them at all. See what emotions you’re feeling underneath them label them and let them go as well keep moving forward that’s the key!!
@nancer22792 жыл бұрын
Thank you again Jim. This is great. I understand intellectually what you are saying about why not to resist the symptoms, they are just emotions that need to pass thru, but practically find it so difficult in real time when the "emotions" are always there.. Besides labeling , what other practical tools do you suggest in real time to release them and not fear? Thanks

I find myself being really brave lately. I am trying to get back to my old self. So I do a lot of very scary things. In the mean time I find that every couple of days my symptoms ramp up like crazy. It scares me. I guess this is a logical responce to me doing more? I am trying to just accept the "bad/hard" days and move on tomorrow. And tomorrow, and tomorrow.. Anyway, are the bad days a consequence of my being brave? Fear coming up stronger?
@thepainpt2 жыл бұрын
Great job keep going this is the answer. Yes your system will overreact because it’s afraid you’re doing too much. But in reality you’re definitely not just keep going you will see in time that you’re brain and nervous system will stop reacting as much as it gets used to what you’re doing!!

Jim can you explain this approach versus confronting the symptom, not being passive, but telling your brain no? I’m just a little confused. Do you confront sensations or let them flow through you? Maybe by resisting you’re not necessarily talking about talking to your brain about the sensations? Just a bit confused

How would you apply this to chronic tiredness? And on a practical matter how would you balance not pushing and continuing on as normal with the tiredness and taking time to rest when there are things that get to be done (i.e. work, play, journaling, etc.)
@thepainpt2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you’re trying to see everything is being OK because it’s just emotional energy in you. Tiredness on the surface is a lot of times sadness because of how it feels. Or if it feels like something else just label it that way but try not to fight fix focus on freeze or get frustrated by what’s going on the goal is to do the opposite you have to let it flow to go

I wondered if you could help with something 2 scenarios: Your doing okay but the anticipation of an event triggers your symptoms (because it usually is a trigger to pain) how do you emotionally process the fearful anticipation? The event did indeed create a big old flare and now your left with trying to battle disappointment (you brought it on yourself!)... and also the preoccupation and miserableness of the level of pain your in! Which emotions do you focus on, the first, second or both?
@thepainpt2 жыл бұрын
Just let all the emotions come and go. Simply label that anxiety on the front end and on the back end if you feel disappointed label that disappointment the whole thing is not to react or resist what’s coming up. The other important thing to remember is you cannot stop emotions they’re too fast so don’t even bother doing that just label what it is and let it flow to go it’s not dangerous. The more you don’t react to it and the less you resist it the more it will go and less likely to come in time!

Thanks Jim. Very helpful as always. Quick question. When the somatic/emotional pain is particularly strong it is so hard not to resist the pain. How do we let the emotions flow to release the pain when we find it hard to affect label ie can’t feel our emotions? Is it using the somatic practices you have previously posted, like let it come and go, interception, emotional tracking? Etc. Thank you for taking the time when you have laryngitis and I hope you’re fully recovered soon.
@8aNda1d2 жыл бұрын
I've found a guided meditation on KZbin that has been helpful to me. It's only about 10 minutes long. I couldn't identify the emotion that I experienced. Search "Declutter the Mind - for emotional pain". There are a lot of other topics you can choose from also.
@nancer22792 жыл бұрын
Similar to my question. This is a challenge for most of us
@thepainpt2 жыл бұрын
Start with letting what’s coming up flow through you. It’s an intentional shift to allow whatever you can allow to pass through your system. In that allowance and acceptance of what’s going through you might notice it feels a certain way that indicates an emotion. If it you don’t just simply think of it as emotion and let it pass. This is a practice so keep working with it the more you practice easier it gets to learn to drop your resistance to what you feel

@thepainpt2 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry to hear that about your daughter. Can’t say we can cure cancer with this but it can take the edge off when you don’t resist what you’re feeling and just try to allow it to pass through you. Resisting and reacting are two things that can make it worse
