Looks like a really fun little mission, I love this sort of size of CM scenario, makes it easy enough to play in an afternoon/evening unlike some of the massive 90min+ ones

The largest scenarios I end up playing are the medium sized ones. I only play in real-time, so anything larger than a medium scenario becomes a chore to manage.

I fully agree, it also allows you to actually take note of most things going on in the turns without spending an insane amount of time per turn. It also allows you to really get into the small unit tactics which is where most of the fun is IMO.

I've found some relevant historical context (with a map including Landing Zone P) in Tim Saunders 'Operation Varsity' Battleground Europe battlefield tour guide book, chapter 8 (6 Air Landing Brigade), pages 161 to 164 with an earlier explanation about the American presence on pages 152 to 153, where it is also explained that the German 84th Volksgrenadier Division troops were reinforced by AA guns and (light) armour from the Waffen-SS 'Kampfgruppe Karst' anti-air landing troops.
@markraffety32462 ай бұрын
Interesting scenario. The airborne force mix includes armor, indirect fire weapons and significant crewed weapons which provided the airborne troops with good combined arms even in a air drop. The recoiless rifle pretty much shows pak guns as obsolete. Much more mobile and still gives good long range firepower. From the allied side it really shows a post war leap into the 1950s taking shape. Very interesting scenario. Thanks for posting it.

Cannister is love and life... Seriously, they're so ridiculous good in combat mission that in close quarters battles I honestly prefer using lighter vehicles equipped with them over full sizes tanks without them. I wonder how effective cannister were IRL back in ww2, I'm guessing nowhere close else they'd be more common. Maybe a topic for a future video? ❤ Love these smaller ww2 AI battles, thanks Hapless! ❤

I'm also playing Drop Zone P and I don't understand why the option to use the howitzer from the HQ artillery button is OK if the contact is with the radio of an unbuttoned vehicle, but if it is the radio of a HQ you can't call for artillery. Thanks and regards.
@usuallyhapless948110 ай бұрын
Not sure on that one. I don't think the howitzer would achieve much in an indirect fire role anyway though- the range is too short for it to fire indirectly so it would need to use direct fire anyway, at which point it's infinitely easier to give the gun a target order.
@robertkalinic33510 ай бұрын
I think everyone who looked at that map could say, ye of course there is something in that small forest behind villages. Also, i think you u can use two split teams to bomb same building at once or do i remember that incorrectly?
@usuallyhapless948110 ай бұрын
Yeah, that wood block was an obvious contender. And... yes, it is possible to blast a building with two split teams though this depends on who's carrying the explosives (if it's just one man, the other team obviously can't blast) and there are some timing issues: if one team goes first then they'll pile in and the other team will blast them...

Another great video! Around the 9 minute mark you mentioned why attacking from your base of fire is bad because you could shoot your buddy in the back. Does CM simulate that? I swear, in games I’ve had friendly fire happen in the middle of firefights. But I can not recreate it in testing, besides area of effect weapons. It’s just a single example, but I had a time when a scout team left the trench in front of my mg, and right as they cross the mg fired and they died. But again, I can’t recreate it. Great video as always!

There is friendly fire only for using the target command to purposely shoot friendly's or if a round isn't on target and hits a friendly. In my experience, it only pins them

Most succesful allied para drop of the war ?
@usuallyhapless948110 ай бұрын
Strong contender. Depends how you define 'successful'. The Germans thought the chaotic drop on D-Day was a plan to scatter angry little groups of paras all over Normandy, not that it was all going wrong.
@System-Update10 ай бұрын
For clarity, the size of the group does not affect the angriness of paras. A single cherry beret is plenty capable of starting a fight in an empty room.

why only usa uses canister shot? was it that meh in reality?
@usuallyhapless948110 ай бұрын
I believe it's mostly related to calibre. It makes sense for 37mm because you can carry loads of ammo and HE ammo is pretty underpowered so you might need a "make everything in front of me go away" trick up your sleeve. Switch to 75mm and not only is the HE much beefier and more effective but you have less space for ammunition (it's all bigger) so hyper specialised rounds are going to be much less preferable.
