I have no words to thank you for your wonderful way of explaining. I have been studying English for many years but I am still not fluent because no one had explained to me so clearly and slowly each of the aspects of phonetics (connect speech, linking, assimilation, dropped letters, etc.) I have to say: THANK YOU Billy! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 You have given me hope to achieve my greatest goal in learning. Achieving complete mastery and fluency in English: my great desire. Greetings and God bless you my teacher

Hi, You are a real teacher. I learned a lot from your video lessons. Thanks a lot for them, or I can not thank you enough for the service you provide. You are awesome. Here, I want to know what the difference is between "t" glotalisation and dropped "t"? Best regards Joshua Emmanuel

Loved it! Just a question Billie, that ¨T¨ That gets lost, could also be an example of no audible release? I mean in some cases you can articulate the ¨T¨sound but not ¨explote it¨? I get confuse with this all the time : (

I’m not sure if ‘dropping the t’ is an accurate way of describing what we do when we pronounce some of these phrases. For example, in the phrase ‘that girl’, it seems more accurate to say that we glottalise the t rather than drop it. The same can be said for phrases like ‘wait for me’ and ‘won’t go’. ‘That girl’ without the t would simply become ‘Tha girl’, but this isn’t what we say. Rather, we seem to REPLACE the t with another sound. I could be completely wrong about this, so please feel free to correct me.

Just to note that I live in the North East of England (Middlesbrough, Newcastle) area, so this could be an accent thing 😅🤣

Should we drop /t/ in `faults` and `perfectly` miss?

I don't understand the silent T😢
@BillieEnglish Жыл бұрын
The silent T is a letter T that we spell but never pronounce (no matter what accent or who the speaker is), e.g. in the word 'castle' - the letter T is never pronounced. That's what we mean by 'silent T'.

Why/when did words like 'button', 'mountain', 'important', etc., with the 't' in the middle of the word, the 't' become silent? These words are commonly mispronounced by kids and adults alike. Are they just too lazy to pronounce the 't'? It wasn't taught that way in schools in the 90s and early 2000s, US or Canada. I can't imagine that it is taught that way now. Am I wrong? 🧐🤪
