Dropping a bolt into your Pajero transfer case is not fun.

My new to me Pajero suddenly got very hard to get in and out of 4WD today. I removed the lever to see if the selector lever engagement ball had disintegrated and indeed it had.
However I then also dropped a bolt into the transfer case. Ugh, what an idiot.

Just doing the same for my 2002 Challenger k97w same'ish transfer system just took the shifter apart yesterday and that brown bushing was in pieces so waiting on replacement to try get low range working correct, replaced solenoids and actuator because they are cheap enough and were original so needed replaced anyway so hopefully 4wd low working fine when i get the new bushing. One thing i would suggest is filling up that actuator rod boot with wheel bearing grease and heaps of it so no issues in the future always lubricated never running dry

I bought mine with the shifter already removed, two of the three bolts were sitting on top, but one is definitely in the case. Sitting in the same boat as you so best of luck!

I guess at least you noticed it! I would still try drop the fluid and cross fingers & toes. Out it comes though by the sounds of it!

Yeah. I'm not *that* mad about it - stuff happens and I enjoy the challenge. I'm just a bit pressed for time right now so I'll have to wheel the car into one side of the garage whilst I'm away travelling for work. It wouldn't even need to be moved except this winter is cold and damp and my wife likes her car garaged in such weather. So, the Paj has to be moved.

The exact same thing just happened to me and I heard a bang and it crash in a grinding noise I get out and look underneath and there's a dent in the transfer case with a crack on it so I slapped some JB weld on it and it came back off but this time it came off with a huge chunk of metal the bolt came out so far it works but I had to take it off the old JB weld and put a new patch on it made of metal and more JB weld more JB weld so hopefully it works that sucks I know how it feels nothing you can do
