It’s not about the age, it’s about the experience. It can be difficult at any age, but you’re more likely to handle it better based upon prior experience to the situation

This gives me even more of a reason not to date in high school. A break-up can lower self esteem, meaning mine will degrade to about -923, which I'm assuming isn't good for me.
@Ventus277
@Ventus277 4 жыл бұрын
You need experience tho. Sooner or later you ll experience a break up anyway. Imagine being in college, or later in life, not knowing how to deal with a break up. The person you ve been with probably has been through a lot of break ups, so he wont seem that affected after the break up, but for you it will be way harder. Yeah, it brings your self esteem down at that moment, but later you ll become stronger and more mature because of that.

Ventus, yeah I guess, but to be honest, I quit dating in high school because most of the boys aren't mature. I have seen some people start dating just to kiss, and that's not what I'm all about. But then again it might just be me having high expectations, lol.

I feel this on a personal level. I’ve never had a real relationship with my father, which has lead me to be very vulnerable when it comes to guys and has left me with low self-esteem. It also makes sense as to why I’m only attracted to men my fathers age. Everyone here who has a good relationship with their father, be thankful. It really is important in a girls life😣😔

@MB-lq9pi

Tara O' Connell I don’t know know exactly how to help, but I can say that hopefully she does have a male in her life who can be a father figure/positive male role model to her, wether that be a grandfather, uncle, friend, boyfriend, etc. When I was younger, my mom had a boyfriend who was my father figure. He showed me how I should be treated by a man and he taught me many things that my father never had an interest in taking his time to teach me. He gave me unconditional love and affection and spent time with me as much as he could and I can tell you that was an amazing time for me those years I got to have him. I will always keep those memories close to my heart and I will always remember the things he’s taught me and how he treated me. Unlike myself, I hope your daughter can have a man/men like that throughout her whole life. Unfortunately for me, I was abandoned yet again...but adults break up and that’s life. Good luck to you and your daughter.

Lots of love to you girl. I didn't have one with my father and I never realized how much it impacted me as an adult now until I went to therapy. I chose my kid's father who ended up to be like my own father. I made that mistake and my kids suffered from it.

How about this for advice: learn to love yourself before even thinking about getting romantically involved with another person. Make sure your expectations are realistic, but set expectations. It hurts knowing that he never wanted to be in my life, he never even tried to search for me years later. He never made me feel like a princess. It hurts how much mistakes I’ve made in the past seeking validation from these dumb boys. And after all the things he’s done wrong to me, I hate how much I still want him in my life. It’s been 8 years and not even once he sent me a birthday card, asked how I was doing or anything. He doesn’t even care.

I had a messed up childhood with a rapist drugged out "father". My relationships as a teen were a little obsessive. However, you learn when you get older, what you deserve. At least I did

My mom rejected me shortly after she remarried. The pain was so overwhelming, it literally felt like I was going to die. You never recover from it. Therapy and all these other things are just bandaids and coping mechanisms. I am trying my best to find a surrogate mom because I don't have anyone to take me in as their son.

This is why you don't take high school dating seriously. Realize it's just practice. You're both learning and will make mistakes that you will learn not to make again. I dated in high school, but never took it too seriously. He was a nice boy to go do things with and get out of the house. That's it.

The relationship with the father is important. I had issues too with emotions and break-up, even I was older. I was 24 and I couldn't accept a break-up..I was reacting very dramatic.

Poor kiddo. She seems really thoughtful and nice. Don't let the dopes get you down. Teen years don't last forever and a great big world of people and possibilities await you after that. Hang in there and stay true to yourself! =)

First dr Phil episode I’ve seen in a long time where both the parents and child are both reasonable people. I hope the daughter gets the help she needs🙂, and eventually finds a guy worth her while when she’s ready.

I got shafted because my dads a Jehovah's Witness and I could never understand why I wasn't enough...its because I wasn't ever one so therefore break ups tore my life apart...saddest realizations that bring you back to not being important enough to love more than a radical religion...
