In This Video, Dr Praveen Kammar (Surgical Cancer Oncologist, Mumbai) Explained the pain in cancer.
0:20 Does a lump of cancer hurt?
Many patients who come to us with stomach cancer, cancer of the breast, and other cancers frequently claim that their lump never hurts, making it difficult for them to believe that it is cancer.
As a result, it is clear that most malignant lumps are painless.
1:00 Why doesn't cancer in its early stages hurt?
We experience pain when our pain nerves are stimulated, however malignant lumps lack pain nerves and do not initially produce discomfort.
2:00 How does pain from cancer feel and when does it occur?
Cancer causes pain as it spreads, and the degree of that discomfort depends on how far the tumor has progressed.
For instance, if a patient had a small tumor in her breast that eventually spread to her skin, the patient would experience intense pain. A patient with bone cancer would also have sharp pain, but a patient with stomach cancer would not.
So, the location of the tumor affects the discomfort associated with cancer.
Because the cancer's early stages lack nerve fibers, pain is not experienced.
When cancer invades other organs, the patient experiences pain.
