Pre Void Bladder Volume
Measure the volume of urine in the bladder before urination. The bladder must be full.
Measure the bladder’s Height (AP Measurement) and width in transverse plane
Measure the bladder’s length in longitudinal plane
Estimated bladder volume = 0.75 x (width) x (length) x (height)
Pre Void Bladder Volume Example:
AP Measurement: 6.09 cm
Width: 8.40 cm
Length: 11.45 cm
Volume: 306.63 ml
Post Void Residual Volume:
Determine the amount of urine left in the bladder after urination, known as the post-void residual. A high PVR volume can indicate difficulty in bladder emptying.
Normal Results: A small amount of urine left in the bladder after voiding is normal, typically less than 50 ml for adults. The acceptable range can vary based on age and sex.
Abnormal Results: A post-void residual volume of more than 100 ml is generally considered abnormal and might require further evaluation or intervention. High volumes may indicate an obstruction, weak bladder muscles, or nerve problems affecting bladder control.
Measure the bladder’s Height (AP Measurement) and width in transverse plane
Measure the bladder’s length in longitudinal plane
Estimated bladder volume = 0.75 x (width) x (length) x (height)
Normal PVR Volume Example:
AP Measurement: 2.56 cm
Width: 3.15 cm
Length: 3.18 cm
Volume: 13.45 ml ( 50 ml and lower is normal)
Abnormal PVR Example:
AP Measurement: 48.2mm
Width: 98.6mm
Length: 46.0 mm
Volume: 164ml

You can conclude as URINARY RETENTION..then further investigations will determine reason obstruction or neurological Plz do video on lamps and bumps ultrasound..i have problems to differentiate lyphm masses with lymphadenopathy 🙏

Hi there and thank you for the video !! May I ask about the volume calculations in pre void , it seems using the equation with both 0.75 and 0.5 gives out results different to the 306.63 ml mentioned , could I ask your opinion ? I also tried the calculations with the 0.52 correction coefficient used by most institutions but I am still getting a different result to the 306.63.

Hello. Actually sometimes the ultrasound machine's calculations do not match the calculations done with the formula, so the values are different.

URETERS: Both ureters are not dilated. URINARY BLADDER: Urinary bladder is adequately distended. Wall appears smooth and regular. No intraluminal SOL or calculus is seen. No echoes are seen in UB lumen. PVR = Significant (123 cc). PROSTATE: It is mildly enlarged in size with normal shape and echotexture. It measures 39 mm x 36 mm x 35 mm. Volume: 26 cc. Median lobe appears normal. No calcification or SOL is seen. That does it means... How to treat this extra PVR.. Plz guide
