Did enjoy the single malts and had 15 “thank you” cards to mail to people who I met in pubs and they treated me to some tasty food. Wonderful trip! The whole point of Brexit is to regain independence. The SNP wants to leave the UK to surrender sovereignty to the EU instead. Which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Especially when the argument is usually trade or migration. Since Scotland doesnt trade with the EU (less than 20%), it cannot trade its biggest exports with the EU (no pipelines), doesnt have much EU migration, and generally has less links to the EU than any other country. Its quite literally just an excuse for the SNP to do the opposite of the rest of the population. Not to mention more Scottish people voted for brexit (1,018,000) than voted for the SNP (977,000).

Nobody can understand anyone in shouting distance of Glasgow. I remember travelling to Scotland by train as a child in the 1970s. We got to Glasgow and needed to catch the train to Ayr where my Uncle lived. My old man asked a Guard where the train left from and after answering and repeating, "Plafotee" three or four times he finally held all his fingers and thumbs up. Platform 10. You can understand us but we can't understand you. Someone needs elocution lessons.

Scotland rightly perceives it’s best advantage to be in gaining membership of that bloc rather than retaining membership of this bloc. I see no “contradiction“.
@chrisfranklin75473 жыл бұрын
The contradiction is in the messaging not the goal. If the SNP want to win an indi-referendum they have to play up the nationalistic themes of taking back control from a distant government. But if they want to join the EU as a much smaller less significant member, they will have to give up far more powers than the UK did and they’ll be handing those powers to a government they have even less influence over. That’s a contradiction.
@X-boomer3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisfranklin7547 only when you deliberately mis-frame it as a pair of opposing false dichotomies. It is in reality much simpler than that. Everybody possessing average or greater intelligence can see that Scotland is too small to go it alone. The only question is which alliance should Scotland be part of in order to best serve its own interests.
@meredith58793 жыл бұрын
@@chrisfranklin7547 the SNP and the Indy campaign in general doesn't push nationalistic themes though. Nowhere near the amount that the pro UK campaign does. The SNP/Indy angle is very pro european community, "we could be a Nordic country". The No campaign by contrast is all about British (and Empire) nostalgia.

@petertwiss42153 жыл бұрын
I think that your only option now is independence. If you cannot accept a democratic vote then you have to split until you find a majority which conforms to your views. If the Brexit vote went the other way, I would not be asking for independence from Scotland in order to satisfy my local political viewpoint. 35 years ago when I was staying in Scotland, I was actually shocked when a local mentioned independence as I found it incredible after our shared history, culture and sacrifice together. The SNP has done a fantastic job of creating greater division between us. My opinion now is the only solution is independence, as at least after the spit, Scotland can't keep blaming England at every possible opportunity and can focus on its own future. I sincerely wish you the best when it happens!
