I understand the pet peeve of not wearing the masks when scrubbing in, but they keep the masks down when it's important to be able to see the facial expressions of the characters in the scene. Like in the OR with Turk at the end, they didn't need to show his face because they were able to express his growth from the singing.

I think the episodes where Dr. Cox breaks his hard outer shell and you see a glimpse of who he really is are some of the best ones. Sam Lloyd (Ted the lawyer) performed w/ his band at the Scrubs cast Christmas party and Bill Lawrence (show creator/producer) liked them so much he wrote them into the show. They ended up appearing in 16 episodes total. 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂

I love the episodes where Dr.Cox shows his human/softer side. Like drops the whole 'sarcastic misanthrope' act he's got going on. Another of those episodes, aside the ones you've already covered, is My Princess. It's actually one of my favourite episodes, because of the changes between the "reality" and the "story" version of events, and honestly it shows more creative and imaginative side of Cox too.

I think maybe what Dr. Nguyen is saying when comparing Todd and Turk is that Turk overthinks to the point of detriment. Sort of like how when you're driving you want to be prepared for something to happen that you may have to avoid or stop for, but if you overthink that, you end up driving way too slow because you're too worried about the possibilites to drive the appropriate speed.

The janitor's name is Glenn Matthews. It's revealed to JD in the season 8 finale but was implied to be yet another red herring when another guy calls him Tommy right after. The series creator, however, went on record during an interview after that it was actually a rare moment of honesty from the janitor to JD and Glenn Matthews is indeed his real name.

There is definitely a difference though between being prepared by awareness of potential complications and how to correct them quickly and being distracted by their potential and missing things right then. Good example is the episode where there is something that shouldn't be there, but Turk is distracted and arguing with Bonny in an episode and misses a tumour, when Dr Wen stops him and points it out he only then realizes it shouldn't be there and is something he has never seen before. The Todd is a meathead, but he knows his subject, he trusts his skills and training and he is focused on what is happening right now not distracted by what he might need if something unlikely happens. 🤼‍♂️

As far as the "washing your hands + putting your mask on" thing is concerned....on ER, which is usually a pretty realistic depiction of medicine in the US, the doctors never put on the masks themselves. It's done for them by nurses after they enter the OR.

I don't know how canonical the podcast is, but Glenn Matthews was definitely played as a joke... not that it isn't "true," but I don't think it was intended to be clear. Arguably, his name is actually Neil Flynn, since one of the only confirmed things we know about him is that he was in the Fugitive.

I think the point with Turk compared to The Todd is that Turk is too wrapped up in those what-ifs (whilst obviously important to consider and be mindful of) that he gets hampered by them. I guess it is a little like with Elliot in the episode where all 3 patients die in one episode instead of 1 out of 3 where she is afraid of a wrong decision or a bad outcome that it almost paralyses her. Being careful is one thing but letting them consume you to the point your hesitation may negatively impact a patient would not be good. "Fear causes hesitation, and hesitation will cause your worst fears to come true."

@@nmcnea771 Yes, but Bill Lawrence did say in an interview after-the-fact that Glenn Matthews is his name, he was finally being honest with JD as a kind of farewell gift. However, there is an argument to be made that the Janitor's name is Neil Flynn (just like the actor) because of the episode where it turns out the Janitor had a bit part in a Harrison Ford movie (a transit cop in The Fugitive), and the credits for that movie credit one Neil Flynn in the role.

Oh dear. You really wanna go down the road of what the Janitor's real name is? Well there's a lot of different ways that it can go. If we just forget about what Bill Lawrence said about his name, It's one of three things, Either Glenn Matthews, Tommy, or Neil Flynn. Glenn Matthews which is what he revealed to JD on his last day. Tommy on what someone else called im about 5 seconds after JD left. Or The Neil Flynn theory is because Neil was actually in that scene in The Fugitive. Therefore the credits should say Neil Flynn. Hence Neil is the Janitor's REAL name.

I remember one job I had, we had a fairly new person there (say, four months in?) who thought of herself as VERY good at "reading people". Whipples are actually chief resident or attending territory. Our system has the medical students seeing one but not helping for a long time. as a resident you can assist and becoming chief you can do one. Interns are lucky they see one at all. Whipples are super complex and require a large team to even attempt hence why we can't do it that way. if a emergency Whipple shows a surgery intern when by themselves is literally given the task of keeping the patient alive by any means at least keep them alive long enough for the top guys to get in and fix the problem. its not easy but its just done that way.
