For causing the old adhesive on the bumper to release, you might want to try (on a junk camera first) pure Heptane, sold in the USA as Rubber Cement Solvent; also, a commercial product, sold as "UnDu" in the USA,, works in a similar manner. When Heptane dries, which is within 30 seconds or so, no residue is left snd the stickiness of the adhesive is restored, which allows items to be repositioned after initial placement.

One thing that I've always read is to never touch your mirror or your focusing screen. It looked like you were rubbing on them with your pre-moistened cleaning pad or did it just seem that way?

Great thanks will have a go. Have you any ideas why my recently purchased Canon EOS 10 does not rewind. Makes the right noises but soon starts to clatter and then stop. The cassette icon remains flashing and the shot counter remains on 24 or 36 and no film gets back into the cassette! This is the case with the auto rewind and the manually pressed switch. I imagine either the "prong" does not engage or a gear inside is slipping. The rest works a dream and looks and feels like new. Any ideas much appreciated. Regards Mark

Almost a good idea, but... better to take a 'Star-cross ' or phillips screwdriver to remove the focus screen frame with x 1 screw it lifts out easily, even easier, to replace the degraded foam. There is a small line-up notch on the interior of where the mirror and focus screen meet.slides right back in place, no sticky foam residue to get caught inside the camera, and zero chance of messing up the mirror, potentially, making even more problems.

Must be possible to easily replace the focus screen then with one with a split focus aid? Do you know any description of this process, last time I looked there were 3 screws, one at the front under the mirror foam and two at the side.

Good information. Very informative. One thing -- what is the type of tape you use? I couldn't quite make out what you were saying. Thanks.

Never spend a fortune when replacing seals and damper. This is a good and cheap trick, some other materials work too.

If the damper foam isn't replaced does the mirror get damaged?
@solitarydan72728 жыл бұрын
northstar1950 i belive that some cameras can damage the screen by slapping it against the camera body without any protection.

Thanks SD, that's what was running through my mind.

No worries. I donbt think its common but its going to be very hard to find a replacement if it does happen. Also, its fun to tinker around and mod your camera for the better, right? Right! :)

does anyone know where or how I can buy a reflex mirror. my pentax sv doesn't have one.
@zenoist23998 жыл бұрын
You might be able to cut one with a glass cutter. Womens make up compacts have mirrors in them of about the right thickness.

Mousemat foam is in fact a rubber, it's too dense for this purpose. An open cell foam that has good compression is better suited. Good compression absorbs the shock of the mirror slapping the mirror foam bumper strip. With a dense rubber the shock is absorbed into the camera and its parts. Saving a bit of money on foam will not save your camera from breaking.

bainsk8, can you double up the foam from an eBay kit for a loud camera like an F3?
