Absolutely. When she mentioned fighting off the first wave of sleepiness. I learned the hard way fighting off sleep to watch a program or finish a project just aint worth it. Now when that wave occurs I shut it down.

I never allow my phone in my bedroom. It sits, charging, in the adjacent bathroom, where only urgent calls and morning alarms can be heard. Highly recommended. Good luck all.

Dr. Marks, thank you so much for all that you do. I've suffered from lifelong depression, severe anxiety, and OCD. I'm currently heavily medicated, which helps a lot, but is basically a bandaid on a bullet hole. I love your videos and book, 'Why Am I Anxious', so much because it explains the "why". Understanding just a little how my brain works versus a "normal" brain has been tremendously helpful in feeling less alone in my mental health struggles. I've not gotten a single explanation about why I am the way I am (I am very fortunate to have experienced no major trauma in my life) and that I was literally just born with a brain that works differently. That is indescribably comforting, and something I wish I'd known so much earlier on. Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for you. 🙂

Thank you! My sleep problem is that I can go to sleep if I go to bed, but there is always something to know that can wait until tomorrow. I don’t have any anxiety, by the way; I have ADHD. I get such a dopamine rush from examining something new. It can be something minute. Then there’s social media KZbin. I really enjoy your explanations. Keep up the good work 😊 I’m looking forward to part 2.

@@DrTraceyMarks Hope you can enjoy your son if he's home and family generally over the long holiday weekend. I taught the pleasant events/accumulate positive experiences DBT skill in a group recently. In teaching it, I saw it's not about distraction or escaping from life troubles - but actively building and making things in your life that you enjoy. And holidays, above all, should be for enjoying your family if you have them home with you.

Ive had insomnia for about 4 years now. Tried different meds and didnt work. While it has gotten somewhat better over the years i still have the same problem since day 1. I wake up several times throughout my sleep cycle. So i can sleep 7-8 hours, but ill wake up like every 4-5 hours sometimes 3-4 its very inconsistent lmao. Speaking to a counselor or therapist also helps me as well. And walking/jogging!

I'm at the point with my insomnia where no amount of sleep hygiene (and reduced sleep anxiety; I've accepted whether I'll sleep well or not), blackout curtains, ear plugs, eye masks, screen-free time, "boring" activities, etc. will help me stay asleep through the night. Currently waiting for a sleep study to see if there's something else going on, but it's going to be a long wait. Do you have any videos or information to share on sleep issues with neurodivergence?

I have struggled with insomnia since I was a baby! My mom said I would stay up all the time and would not nap. I have an anxiety disorder, am hyperactive and struggle to slow down and relax despite many coping skills (regular exercise, meditation, journaling, reading, no caffeine, no alcohol, regular bedtime and wake time, etc.) Are some of us just highly anxious and wired to the point where we naturally don't sleep much? I get an average of about 5 hours of sleep.

I have had perimenopause insomnia since I was 34 I'm 38 now and since my blood tests were always saying I don't have it they've just throw trazadone at me instead of hrt. Yay doctors are not fun at all now and I hate them for not taking early menopause symptoms seriously always telling me I'm "too young" for it 😑 I slept just fine from age 0-33 so they are very wrong

Same! My symptoms started around 40/41. Then kicked off enough for me to see my providers. They sent me everywhere to rule out other medical causes and when those were negative they acted as if nothing to do, but I was suffering! Finally got someone to listen to me about peri and now I’m on HRT. Still trying to figure out my balance but at least I know what’s going on now ❤

I have all of the symptoms of chronic insomnia. I've told my healthcare providers. They say reduce screen time. Have done that. Still did not help. I've stopped sleep meds after 30 yrs because they weren't helping. I thought after 4 months I would've leveled off but did not. Wanted to give me Guanfacine(unfocused ADHD) but I hated the way it made me feel the next day and it was just another med. I get so sleepy during the day and try to fight it. Also at around 7 p.m. No caffeine after early morning. Still cannot fall asleep. So frustrating!

Can you do an update on any new information or studies on that Lavender Augustafolia stuff you had talked about in an older video? Is it true that it can replace colensapam (can't spell it can't even say it but you probably know what I mean) and atavan and all that other stuff? I don't like how colensapam calanopam clonenzopam whatever makes me so tired and weak it is as if the stuff actually weakens my muscles not just relaxes me. I don't need that much relaxation. And what is the lavender stuff's shelf life I still have some but don't remember when I bought it.

Is a sleep wake disorder like insomnia curable?or is it permanent a life time commitment of seeing medics and combing all lines of treatment? You medics usually tackle Secondary or comorbid insomnia through content creation and we do Google on sleep disorders and you will always give an explanation somewhat satisfactory. What about Primary or idiopathic insomnia? Being under"Stress"equals a risk of developing insomnia? No.What about the non organic sleep wake disorder!!!
