As an ICU nurse I have questioned this for years. I am obviously not pro drunk driving. The issue I have is with police officers performing field sobriety testing after a weekend training course and this being used as quantitative data for an arrest/conviction/evidence for DUI. These are neurological function tests, they are 100% medical examinations. Even when preformed by trained medical professionals (MD'S, Nurse's) with intensive training and extensive experience, these tests are still subjective tests. We couple these with other diagnostic findings, tests, consultations with other providers and evaluations to determine neurological deficiecies. The cerebellar and neurological testing is just one screening component we use to screen for deficiencies. To allow a non medical professional to preform these tests with a 6 hour course is ridiculous on its face. Interoperator subjectivity is an issue with properly trained medical professionals let alone a person with a 6 weeks in the police academy. I don't have any problem with calibrated breathalyzer s or blood test as they do provide quantitative objective data not determination on skill level or bias. The idea that a LEO can preform MEDICAL tests is offensive.

I don't remember the exact law, but I do remember hearing of you show up to pay your ticket, and they don't accept it, the courts consider the fine paid, as you tried but they refused. Awesome job brother

I don't know about for tickets but I do know that if a bill collector calls you and you offer to say pay $5 a month where they wanted $50 a month and they refuse your $5 you can do something and the debt basically is no good because they wouldn't take your payment that you offered
