Small town in Tasmania. We got our first ‘ethnic’ family in the town in the late 90s. To fix the stereotype even more, they are Chinese who opened a Chinese restaurant. Mum and Dad changed their names to more Australian names and the boys to famous celebrity names to fit in. Of course they had the bogans rail on them hard and tbh they were very brave to move there. Their restaurant did and still does fantastic business! Oh and to make that stereotype stick even more, the kids were front of house and would do their homework at the same time. The eldest was pushed and is now a Dr!!! They certainly experienced racism to the nth degree and now are a staple in the community!

The feeling I get from Mr. Sandhu is one of a person who wants to love his family actively, but doesn't quite know how to, and needs help from those he loves to teach him or at least let him love them. But the damage his actions caused have made it such that they - especially his kids - won't afford him that chance, and that shit cuts him deep. The most visceral displays of pain he emotes always come when he speaks about the impact his actions have had on his loved ones. If you read this Mr. Sandhu, please don't stop trying to reconcile. Don't stop displaying emotion when doing interviews, especially when you mention your kids. Let them know as often as you can that you're thinking about them, you regret what has happened, and that you love them regardless. So even if they can't forget or forgive you for what happened before, the fact that you're sorry and love them should also stay in the back of their minds, so that if or when they start to forgive or soften their stances towards you, they aren't unsure of how you feel about them. Keep on keeping on.

Britain was a different place in the 1970s. Hate and fear was an everyday thing. I was deeply involved in dealing for over 3 decades but have now paid my debt to society.
