I have bags by a few brands and I’ve noticed the long handles on the humes and berg drum seeker bags enable you to carry two drums in each hand, which can be a big advantage if you’re gigging in a city.

The handle on the drumseeker is so long so that you can carry multiple bags in a single hand.

I just purchased the Humes and Berg drum seeker bags. Mainly for the price point and the thicker padding as you suggested. They are build very very well, have a nice soft lining and are beefy. The thickness of the padding allows the bag to stand up on its own. They have the nice large zippers and are well constructed. I do agree on the handles being too long and the bags tend to hang. However, the long strap gives me room to throw them over my shoulder. So perhaps it's a 2 in 1 design of handle and shoulder strap (?). For me they work great in the shoulder strap "mode". One benefit I also discovered was that they nest very well one inside the other for storage when not in use. I found your review quite helpful. Thanks!

This is a great comparison video, so kudos to the nice gentleman who did this. As a lifelong drummer, I've had soft cases and vulcanized fiber cases. I think the fiber cases are the best option, as they give the drummer a hard shell, and the option to install your own foam, which is not that difficult. I did that with my 30+ year old fiber cases, and they still hold up well with the foam still intact on the inside of the case, to this day. The hard plastic cases are the most expensive, short of ATA road cases. But the #1 problem with any soft cases, whether it is the minimal leather bag or the max fur-lined soft-shelled bag: if you drop the drum while in that soft case from any significant height of 12 inches or higher, IT WILL damage the drum to a certain extent. I was reminded of this loading out from a gig with my kit stacked on a luggage rack. One of my toms fell off from a height of about 5 feet. Thankfully it was in my fiber foam-lined case, so there was no damage to the drum, or the case itself, for that matter. But if it was in a soft cases, there would have been significant damage to the drum. too bad I don't see fiber cases made anymore, as those are the best option from a cost and protection standpoint. BMM

Ahead is the best one if you’re looking for soft cases. I have 3 kits in ahead armor and a couple of rolling cymbal bags. I don’t like the skb hard cymbal cases cuz you can’t really open them like the cymbal bags in tight gigs, tight spaces. You gotta lay it down and stuff

Oh yeah and the zipper that comes all the way down the side. The in and out of a tom is so easy. I'd never buy another soft bag company because of thus feature alone!!! ;D

Great video! Thank you so very much, as I found this extremely informative. One comment (regarding the handle of the DrumSeeker bags), I doubt that the Humes & Berg manufacturers just “got a lot of excess nylon strap they wanna use up” haha. I’m fairly certain the strap was made that length in order to: a.) be able to carry multiple tom bags (ex. 8, 10, and 12”) in one hand, and/or b.) carry the bag(s) over one’s shoulder. Although this is just speculation, I truly feel it’s the most reasonable and logical explanation for it. That being said, considering the value, I think I gotta go with the Seekers (or even their Galaxy line [no faux/fleece lining, even less expensive]!

I was just being sarcastic when suggesting they made the handles extra long to use up excess materials. It pretty obvious they are the way they are in order to let you carry multiple bags at once...but since I'm not a pack mule I prefer to just carry one drum in each hand at a time and the long handles aren't ideal for doing so. Even so when I just recently needed to get more cases I ordered more Drumseekers because the pricing is just that much better for a case that offers as good or better protection as the others.

I have a full set of the protection racket cases for my kit. I love em. They're SUPER roomy so I'm surprised you couldn't get the 12 inch Tom in the 12 inch case. Mine practically flops around inside mine. I can even use my 13" snare case for a 14" drum. It's tight, but it works. I can even put a 20 inch long Kick drum into a case for an 18 inch long kick. Again, tight, but functional. I think I like the Ahead stuff a little better though. The way it opens is convenient and it's not so clumsy trying to get a tom inside. You can even see in your video that the PR case kinda flops around awkwardly when you're trying to stick a tom in there, and I have the same "problem" every time. PR : 8.5 Ahead : 9

i think the long handle is for if you want to carry 2 toms for example or /and you could carry with a longer handle the drum arm through it and over your shoulder . that the only idea i can come up with

I stand behind Humes and Berg drum bags, as I use the Galaxy series on my toms. I use the Humes and Berg Seeker bag on my snare drums and Bass drums. I am 5’11” tall and don’t have any issues with the handle strap length, so, may I suggest that you consider taking your bag to a leather/shoe repair shop. Have them shorten up your straps and problem solved, no more dragging your bags on the ground.

I'm 6'1" but I have long arms. The long handles aren't a deal breaker but they do give the Ahead bags an edge for me as far as preference. Lately I've been buying Barton bags almost exclusively as they are very decent bags at a reasonable price. Not quite at the level of the faux lambswool lined bags but, IMO, better than the Galaxy bags and at a lower price.

I prefer Stefyline drum bags over these because they have an internal rigid plastic sheet that protects drums and keep the bag in shape even when empty.

Just on the bottom of the red bags, the rest of those bags is the same sort of woven nylon as the others although these seem to be quite a bit stiffer in construction. The B/O bags are a sort of fake leather all over.

Maybe the long handle in the Drum Seeker is for handling more than one drum at the same time.

Pretty sure you're right. But I tend to carry only two drums at a time (one in each hand) so I don't like the lack of control the longer handles cause. Even so I just took delivery of three more Drum Seeker bags earlier today. Hard to beat them for the price.

The "R" I mentioned was part of the model number. Nothing to do with the trademark indica. I believe the egg shaped bags were introduced after I made this video.
