And also because he keeps the snare and kick in the same place. There’s still that feeling of strong beat, even when he puts weak accents on the snare because the strong snare and the strong kick are in the same place. A lot of making a good groove is finding where the strong and weak beats are and accenting that in a way that’s pleasurable. Really cool piece by this guy

Same situation however listening to the explanation of it is kind of confusing but listening to the function of the performance is like a natural thing and to recreate it however the explanation is a bit confusing but I'm trying to soak it up.

but any binary beat can be achieved with any subdivision if you change the bpm. So the difference is really between all the odd metrics like 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, etc

This might sound stupid, so I'm not a drummer (yet) i do play the trumpet tho and there i basically started to play by hearing if that makes any sense, try getting familiar to the sound of the 16th so you maybe don't have to count anymore or let's say not that much, here again i ain't a drummer and I'm at the very beginning but maybe it helps somehow

Idk if this answer works for you bc every musician conceptualizes things in their own way, but my answer is that I don't count it, I just do it. I'm a multi-instrumentalist who has studied plenty of music theory, but one of the things I love most about drumming is that I don't have to think about it, I can just do whatever idea comes to my mind.

@@dektrimusic that's completely understandable, it takes time. if you're on a marching instrument such as snare, marking time is the best solution, but if you're on drumset you can tap your heel when you're not playing
