Drum Harmony ?

Drum harmony is an abstract concept. The drums have their own unique harmony. It's a little orchestra. It seems tangible and esoteric at the same time. In the internet attention economy, many aspects of drumming are overlooked. In this video, I'm using three microphones, which is not optimal in translating what I'm hearing from the drums. Hopefully there is enough of an 'impression' left over... I talk about dynamics a bit after the first improvisation. I'd love to hear your thoughts... Leave a comment, sub, like, share. Enjoy! Wow...a beater shaft that flexes.....that is a trip. Man have I missed a lot in 25 years of retirement!! The Evans heads do have a nice sound. I got used to the Remo Diplomats. For the work I did, they were great! Back in 1980- 1993, I used Remo drums! Heard a buddy of mine playing a big band gig and he was using them, sounded really good. They had those PTS heads with them...where the tuning was in the heads. Those were really light drums to carry. One set I had had the clips on them, the second set used regular heads that you could tune.Drums Are Fun!!!!! So much to learn all the time...thanks Jonathan!!!!

Nice improv work Jonathan....really cool!!! Did you customize your cowbell? Never seen anything like it..good sound. Also...is your bass drum beater wood or felt...cannot quite tell. Also...are your drum heads Evans or another brand. I was an old Remo drum head guy, but some of the new heads sound nice! Your drum heads have a nice sound! Congrats on a very interesting and motivating video!!!

My pleasure Bruce. The cowbell is standard. Toca. Not sure of it's proper bell type. It sounds great! I use and endorse, Flex Beaters by www.dynamicbeaters.com. They are felt beaters and the beater shaft has a "flexion" to allow the beater to flex. Check out the site!!! The heads are Evans UV1's. I had an opportunity to try some Evans heads over a twelve month period. The verdict is, I'm a Remo guy. Remo is king!!! Evans are great.
