Hello everyone. Here is the fourth installment of my Drum Mic Tips Series featuring the Heil Sound Drum Mic Kit. In this episode I discuss several different placements of the top, and bottom snare mics to get a variety of sounds for your recording. I also discuss getting the correct phase on the bottom mic. Used in conjunction with my first two videos, these tips will help you get the snare drum sound YOU WANT for your music, or drum video. This series is based upon using only an 8 channel interface. This is also a great vid for those who want to know how the Heil Sound Drum Mic kit sounds in the studio. All drum sounds are raw from the Heil microphones. No FX, and no EQ except shelves. I will say these mics have performed incredibly well. Just FYI, the PR22 has become one of my fave snare mics of all time, and pairs incredibly well with the PR20 as the under snare mic The -40 dB 180 degree rear rejection of the PR30B’s I used for my OH’s was ESSENTIAL to getting a great OH drum sound in a home with a low roof. Moreover we simply put the mics up, adjusted the gain on the pre amps, and BOOM we had a great drum sound in the OH’s. It was the same with PR28 on the tom. We literally put it up, set the angle, and preamps, and we instantly had a great tom sound. The PR31 on the floor tom took a bit of fine tuning for the angle, but once there we had a phenomenal sound for the floor tom. An especially clean sound due again to the -40dB 180 degree rear rejection.
