That first album is an all-time great. Had a copy of it in my old 90's Mitsubishi on permanent rotation and it never left the CD Player until I crashed the car over a year later. In fact because it was a ripped copy left at my house one night on a blank disc I had no idea who the band was. I was at the auto-dismatler's scrapyard selling the remains of my car and they took the head unit out, hooked it up to a battery and got my CD for me. A guy wearing a metal shirt asked me what the band was, said I didn't know but I listen to it 10 times a week so we put it in his car stereo and he told me it was Divine Heresy and it had the fat guy from Fear Factory in it and the perfect hair Asian guy from different death metal bands on drums.

@@blakecurtis7809 Love this album, this was another album that when it came out, it was the craziest deathmetal drumming I had ever heard. Nile - Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka, and Cryptopsy - Whisper Supremacy are also albums that were absolutely peak deathmetal drumming performances when they dropped (in my opinion).

Very talented drummer, but growing up in Tampa and watching Morbid Angel with Pete makes it hard to see them without him. I was very fortunate at a young age to have a band mate that was always out networking and I was able to take a few lessons from Pete, both at the bands practice storage unit playing on the Pearl kit he used for Heretic and on his electric kit at his house. Pete was a huge influence in my metal drumming growing up. I still have his set of signature Vater sticks he gave me and a pair of his signature promark sticks that he gave me at our first lesson right after he finished tracking some songs for Heritic. I’ll never forget walking into that storage unit and seeing that massive kit on the riser and the cymbals lined up on the wall. Dude was such a great guy he even lent me Sabian metal hats, a ride, and a crash, that he had to test out from the company. My bands demo and a battle of the bands was played using those. Anyway, this brought me down a rabbit hole, but man I would love for you to revisit Morbid with Pete drumming since he wrote those tracks. This reminds me… he showed me the book that’s on the cover of covenant, if im not mistaken it’s an old school book they slapped a cool cover on to make the album artwork. He had it at his house when I was there. I think tomorrow will be a morbid angel kinda day for me! Haha. Again great videos. Let’s showcase the creator of that one foot blast, Mr. Pete Sandoval!

@Marthyn, I can see the burying of the beater being practical for those with two bass drums. How do you work it between double base sections or when you have double/single patterns on a single bass drum? I expect it would muffle the sound and also cause issues with rim mounted trigger. Is it really only practical if you have footboard mounted triggers? By the way I am working through your BDM course, although you discuss the start stop position, it is not the bury kind. Is it because you like larger beater angles?

With Tim Yeung Morbid Angel turned into a coverband (and now still is with Dave's band). Tim is very precise, very clean, very good but he makes Morbid Angel sterile. I LOVE Pete's drumming. He really has to work for every note and does so. He isn't the tightest drummer at all, but he has groove. A signature groove. A bit wobbly, a bit waltzy. That makes Pete unique and Tim just one of many.

Have you ever see Tim Yeung used to be breaking the double bass record in world’s fastest drummer for foot. He did around 837 strokes in one minute. He has mixture foot techniques.
