Funny you picked up on the jazz aspects. The Kami band, when not performing in Babymetal, have their own group called Kari Band, where they play a lot of Jazz pieces.

I think others have mentioned it, but I'll throw it out there as well, Tales of the Destinies live at Tokyo Dome in 2016. It was the only time the song was performed live, and is certainly the most complex song they've ever done. It will certainly be challenging to break down - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4qThoOtgMmLfM0 It has a transparent watermark over it as it would be instantly blocked without it, but it certainly wouldn't affect being able to see what's going on, and more importantly, hear what's going on.

I really wish Tales of the Destinies (live at Tokyo Dome, Red Night) was the first video Mike had seen from Baby Metal instead of Ijime,Dame,Zettai. It's a great song, it's just a bit by the numbers for Baby Metal from a technical standpoint I think, whereas Tales of the Destinies is a fucking rollercoaster!!

⚡ / 🔥 😱 🔥 That was a sixteen year old Su. She's only gotten better in the seven years since that performance. The song premiered the night before, at Budokan Red Night. Rondo is easily in my top ten BABYMETAL songs. Su performed three solos that night. She did 'No Rain, No Rainbow', followed by 'Akatsuki' earlier in the set. Yui and Moa (as Black BABYMETAL) did two songs without Su that night ('4 no Uta' and 'Onedari Daisakusen'), and they performed a bunch of songs together. That Black Night Budokan concert from March 2014 is still one of my favorite BABYMETAL concerts. Not only is Su brave enough to sing and dance on a small elevated platform in the dark, but she also has the confidence to follow those blistering Kami Band solos. That's true fearlessness. : )

As I recall Valerie (on her Vocal Splendor Studios channel) mentioning when she reacted to _Akatsuki,_ we're likely to see Su's true vocal maturity when she's 25. So we better hold onto our seats! :D

Interesting reaction and analysis, thanks. I think they borrowed the term Rondo as the song is about a recurring nightmare, Su being chased through the darkness by - something and finally accepting there is no escape so before she dies she asks if whatever has been chasing her won't at least reveal itself to her. The Kami Band here were Leda Cygnus, Takayoshi Ohmura, BOH (Billy Sheehan was his hero when he was learning bass apparently) and Hideki Aoyama on drums. Their intro is entitles 'Mischiefs of the metal Gods' - you won't find that on the album, the Kami band play the live shows, they don't (as far as anybody knows) do the studio recordings ... other than Leda Cygnus has been involved in a couple and written guitar arrangements for at least one of the songs. Su was just a couple of months past her 16th birthday here and leading a band headlining at the Budokan, a hugely prestigious music venue but mainly a martial arts arena. I will add my vote for 'Tales of the Destinies' for another reaction from you given your main focus being on the drums.

The girls in Babymetal are Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal), Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) and Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal). This is a very dark song where Su is chased by something she cannot escape. The repetitive nature of a rondo makes this even more frightening. I think that the changing time signatures are there to make us feel uncomfortable and keep us of balance. The final chorus is as unsettling as the time signatures and offers no happy resolution: It flickers slowly appearing and disappearing in my mind. A nightmare rondo is being repeated. The awakening light is gone far away out of my sight. I can do nothing but fall into the darkness. I'm always reminded of "monsters from the id". Those of us that don't understand Japanese have to read the lyrics through the refractive prism of translation, but we have the music, the dancing and Su's voice as well, so I think we can get close to the meaning. Some reviewers mention that the song ends very abruptly and that it's hard to settle into...which I think is the point.

CrypticMisery : FYI. My seat was located in front of BOH's pit today. In the grand finale with IDZ, he played in a hilarious manner which made many audiences happy. Especially he actually did finger tapping on his red bass putting it on the corridor upside down (I was afraid that the instrument would bend). And during head banging time in "Headbangeeerr", BOH, Isao and Ohmura stepped out of their pits and played on the corridor with raging action. They stood out very much. I witnessed BND with Riho Avenger, my favorite song, on Makuhari Day-1 last year. That was exquisite. Yesterday's and today's BND with Momoko was beautifully, too. MoaMomo is a good and well-synchronized combination, I believe.

BOH (kami of 6-string bass) likes to joke that since he would listen to and watch Billy Sheehan that he did not know one was not supposed to play Bass that way. Ohmura Takayoshi (2nd guitar solo, with gold guitar) did a brief tutorial on the complex rhythms and time signatures in this song. Unfortunately, I can no longer find the one that had translated to English commentary. And since I am unwinding the solos, LEDA (Leda Cygnus) who did the first guitar solo, wrote the framework for this the "Mischief of the Metal Gods" intro. He has done other arranging and writing for Babymetal and is the only kamiband member known to have played on any of the studio tracks. Interesting that you brought in the tie-in to jazz. BOH is part of a fusion trio known as the kariband ("temporary band", a play on words with kamiband) founded with 2 other kamiband members not in this concert, Mikio Fujioka (RIP) on guitar and Yuya Maeta on drums. They often had a guest musician join them.

Anything you can't account for from the band or young ladies is on a track. They also play on a metronome to keep the whole show synced. Sometimes they'll use vocal tracks, but mostly for the side dancers. Su sings all her parts a human can sing. Sometimes they use crazy vocal effects and that part they'll use a track for.

Nice reaction. Su has 4 solo songs. Moa and Yui also have 4 songs that they do as a sub-unit (Black Babymetal). This allows them to have a break while the other(s) sing. I'm sure others will provide more information. If you think Hideki has a lot of stamina in this song, you should check out Arkadia. He pretty much goes all out for the whole song🤘.

@@mbolden1 Mikio didn't play every show even when he was still alive, they have always rotated in/out depending on their other obligations. In this video they were Leda, Takayoshi, BOH and Hideki ... no Mikio. Last night at the Budokan 10 year show they were Takayoshi, ISAO, BOH and Hideki. Being as kami translates as spirit, then yes, regardless of who the musicians are who are playing, they are always with BABYMETAL in spirit - literally.
@emilyporter1186
@emilyporter1186 Жыл бұрын
@@Grington300 one correction: kami doesn't exactly mean spirit. We don't have a word for it in English really, so spirit or god is the closest we can get but while "spirit" in English has many applications, kami doesn't as much. Like spirit can apply to evil spirits, the spirits of the dead (which would be like "always with you in spirit"), etc. But kami only applies to the divine essence/spirit of things. There are lots of spirits in Japanese lore and culture that are not kami, because they are not divine. The spirits of the dead are generally not considered kami, except in rare individual circumstances.

japanese "hai" is english "hi". japanese "hi" is english "he" (same vowel as the first vowel in "tiara"). japanese "he" is english "heh" (same vowel as "bed"). we're used to the sounds associated with letters being very context-dependent in english, but it's mostly not so when japanese is written in letters. sounds are the same regardless of what other letters are around.

The “Mischiefs of Metal Gods" intro is a ritual performed by the gods of guitar, bass & drum to summon the Metal Queen Su-Metal. because in this song her human soul has been trapped in the recurring nightmare with no way to escape. the Kami Band in this show are : - Leda Cygnus (1st guitar solo) in the past usually play with 6 string, but now he's using 7 or 8 string. - Takayoshi Ohmura (2nd guitar solo) in this song he's using 7 string guitar named "Golden Moon". but, during the extra show "BM Metal Galaxy World Tour in Japan" in 2019, both him & Leda was using 9 string guitar (ESP E-II MF-9 BabyMetal). - B.O.H (6 string bass) - Hideki Aoyama (drum) his little brother (Yuki Aoyama) and father (Jun Aoyama) also a drummers. but, sadly both passed away. his father is consider as one's of the best drummer coming from Japan.

yea 4/8's unexpectedly added to combine with the previous 3/8 time pattern in iriplet or individual bar, and then gets more complex.. feels so random and consistent at the same time. great song. this band can do anything with the vocaalist and drummer who have phenomenal sense in the realm of quality as a musician. "su is a genius", said the virtuoso guitarst takayoshi ohmura (played the 2nd solo in this video). hideki aoyama the drummer is an alien, especially incredible in time, memory and separation to play a storm of polyrhythm stuff.

The non vocal parts in the song alternate between 7/8 and 4/4. But it is done so fluidly that it comes across in a three pattern instead. Fascinating technical playing in a place where you would not exactly expect it. And they are playing with a track. A lot of people have said the vocal only part with piano is her singing, but she is miming the part and that is another member's prerecorded vocals there. You can tell with the diction of the words being spoken being slightly different and the fade in of her sound on her mic when they go back to her singing live. The production is just so damn good it is really deceiving unless you know what you are listening for

In Japanese the song is titled "Akumu no Rimbu-kyoku" which translates "Rondo of Nightmare" in English, but "rimbu" specifically is a format of dance that was developed in France in the medieval period (?) in which people dance in a large circle. Very interesting that you mention the rhythm in 3 and 6. Take a closer look at Su-metal's steps at the "akumu no rondo ga...." part of the lyrics (10:40) and you see she's dancing Waltz.

One of the songs that made me love Babymetal. Great reaction. If you think this song is complicated, check out Tales of the Destinies, their tech/prog/metal masterpiece. You probably already have, since I just realized this reaction came out last year.

I am only now watching your video. From your counting, there seems to be a waltz pattern of sort, as it goes either in 3/4 or 6/8 pattern.

The Jazz aspects of the playing came from non Babymetal projects. The Kari Band plays a lot of Jazz fusion. The Kami Band are some of the finest musicians Japan has to offer and compliment Babymetal well. Look forward to your others Babymetal reaction. Great reaction Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤟

Babymetal is constructed around Su-Metal's (Nakamoto Suzuka) singing abilities. It would not work otherwise. The members of the Kamiband vary depending on availability. They have their own bands and also work as session musicians. There is now a Western Kamiband made up of American musicians for US and European tours. The arts are still taught and are important in Japan. When talent is found, it is encouraged. There're many schools for the kids to attend learning dance, singing, acting, public speaking, and modeling. Su, Moa and Yui all attended such schools. Since you're the "drum guy" checkout the Wagakki Band. Japanese and extraordinary, a mixture of modern instruments and traditional instruments. Your gonna love the drums.

Nice reaction. Great job catching the Jazz influence. Some of the guys in the kami band have another project where they play modern jazz. I think they called it the Kari band. It has been said that the Kami Band are some of the best musicians from Japan. IMO they would be considered some of the best from anywhere. Rondo is about a recurring nightmare, Thus the recurring them and thats a good reason to use the rondo format. In the nightmare Su is being chased by a figure in the dark. She tries to run and hide but can't get away. So she pulls herself together to face the figure in the dark asking it to show itself before she fall into the darkness. Su is know to have a lethal death glare. Maybe she's running from herself. That's a nightmare.

These nonstop aerobic workouts seem to be common in Japanese metal. Of course many will point you towards Haruna from Lovebites, she is a pocket nuke when it comes to the bass drums. And there is also Tamu Murata from Nemophila. Two of the tiniest and happiest drummers in the world. Here is Tamu spending 5 minutes wondering if we are there yet. It looks like it was painful. I did expect you to find the actual song more interesting than the drum solo. It does have a really interesting rhythm (and also a very beautiful melody, in my opinion). I‘m not a drummer, but I like that the drummer doesn‘t go too overboard during his solo. Drum solos tend to get over the heads of the casual listener, but this one is very „comprehensible“ (does that word make sense?), without becoming trivial. It strikes a pretty nice balance, I think. BOH, the bassist is a beast. He does indeed mention Billy Sheehan as one of his biggest influences. BABYMETAL do use backing tracks. All the pianos, synths, strings, growls and some backing vocals come from a backing track.

Mac Taipan : My seat was located in front of BOH's pit today.
