@@timbeaton5045 Often when I play in a jazz context or practice by Jim Chapin's book my left hand wants to go to traditional grip. Wonder why that is.

@@claesblomquist3510 Force of habit? That "Vintage" look? Let's face it the drum is on a stand, so you can angle it any way you want, within reason, so the old marching drummer position is not a factor. Must be something in the way you approach the actual patterning that does that. It would make it easier to play cross handed, if that is the terminology. As a (not particularly good) bass player, I'm interested in drummers for the obvious reason, and have messed around with a couple of kits over the years! and not knowing what I was doing, a drummer friend was intrigued by me being able to swap right an left hands on snare and hats without messing up. As pretty much of a beginner. Anyway, enjoying your channel. Subbed and liked.

@@claesblomquist3510 a lot of drummers who use traditional and match grip switch at different times. I learned traditional and switched to match grip after 5 years or so. I use match grip mainly for power, as in hard rock. But when playing jazz or anything that requires any amount of finesse, I tend to switch to traditional. For me, it is a comfort/habit thing.

I bought some bowling shoes to get the slide effect on the bass pedal. Lol........My 1st kit was $100. A Pearl 1979 or 80 maple kit with classic sizes 22x14 etc. I think that is what he is playing here. A beautiful sounding kit.

Nice video again. Check for sure the drummer Baard Colstad from the band Leprous and of course the great Terry Bozzio as an great Historical figure in drumming.You do a super nice cycle here to deploy the positive drumming and the details of this drumming so some guys can easily understand when their gods must rechecked to call them as gods of drumming.Nice stuff Sir!! Always enjoy your reactions!!

Here's another one for you.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/maDYfox7n756aKs Bill Bruford. Or just about anything he did. Had the privilege of standing just behind his left shoulder during a demo exhibition, with Jonas Helbörg on bass. A revelation to see how he achieved such dynamic range on (then) an acoustic kit, with seemingly so little effort. A truly great drummer, and a nice guy to boot. Such a shame he retired from drumming.

I really like your analogy of all the drummers you've analyzed. I realize this is an opinion question, and I hope you answer it. What drummer has impressed you most, and why? I realize the newer cats borrowed licks from these guys, and expanded on the older cats. I understand that has to be taken into consideration. Btw, where are you teaching out of (state/city?)
@DrumsetArtistry5 жыл бұрын
Vinnie Colaiuta is probably the most advanced drummer on the planet. I teach out of my studio in Ellensburg, WA (near Seattle) but mostly online. Have you had an online drum lesson before?

Maybe a dancer playing the drums? How many of the greats were dancers? Maybe, Garey, you could do a piece exploring this concept. My list to begin with Papa jo Jones Buddy Rich Roy Haynes Steve Gadd I believe dancing develops the internal time clock which allows these gentlemen to do what they do; keep impeccable time
