Drum vs Disc trailer braking tests conducted by Horiba-MIRA 2024

In the Spring of 2024, SAF-HOLLAND UK engaged the services of the world-renowned HORIBA MIRA organisation to conduct impartial scientific tests to ascertain the difference in performance of trailers fitted with drum and disc brakes. The findings are presented in this video.
Extensive tests were conducted at HORIBA MIRA’s Nuneaton Technology Park and captured on film, which can be seen at www.saf-holland.co.uk
The results are startling and make an utterly compelling case for disc brakes. Even when operating at higher working temperatures, a trailer equipped with SAF INTRADISC brakes will consistently stop within a significantly shorter distance compared with drum brakes. The drum braked trailer needed a further 31.7 metres to come to a complete stop.
