I am 75. In my twenties I found a Love compilation LP in a remainder bin. I had only ever heard one song by them, My Little Red Book. I searched several record stores before finding Forever Changes. Being a Love fan was lonely. The only other group I felt this way about was the Kinks. I was lost in a sea of Beatles and Rolling Stones fans in the 1960's. When Arthur Lee died, the local TV anchor admitted he did not know who he was or ever heard of Forever Changes. I am so happy that on KZbin young people can be exposed to the group and that I can share my love of them with others. Also, Check out Signed DC from a different LP by them.

Forever Changes is always in my top 10 albums of all time…and one of the few albums where EVERY track is my favourite…there isn’t one bad track on it. I was lucky enough to see them live in the 1970s when I was a student at Leeds University…for an entry fee of £1.50 (thats around $2!!1)…a night I shall not forget. Also check out the Arthur Smith tour of the UK performing this amazing album live and their set at Glastonbury…pure gold. Review every track on this album….please!!!!

Bulls eye…. Agree. It has an icey diamond element to it. Lee had a Dylan like sharpness lyrically and theme wise. He also had a dark vibe like morrison. The album is a keen insight to the underbelly of the culture.

You have a good ear for tone and lyrics. It’s haunting. Beautiful but tragic. Sound and lyrics echo it. Timeless song… your a doors fans. This band was same label. In fact Lee gave label headsup on doors to sign them. Lee was like morrison, he could see thru the false Platitudes of the summer of love.

I was a late comer to this album, having not heard it until I was in my 30s. I had long read about the mystery and legend of it, but once I finally sat down and listened, it was one of those game changers. As with so many albums I love, it is often the intangibles that is a part of it, and so is the case with Forever Changes. Great upload. Oh, and the deluxe edition of this contains some interesting and funny dialog in different takes of songs.

Arthur Lee is terrific (I love this album), but this was a Bryan Maclean song, and how Arthur Lee kind of co-opted it was apparently what led to the band's disintegration. Talk about divisions. This is how Wikipedia quotes Johnny Echols: "Arthur wasn't even at the studio when we recorded 'Alone Again.' When he heard everyone saying what a great song it was, and how great Bryan's voice sounded. Arthur became jealous and decided to feature his voice on a record he had absolutely nothing to do with. To make matters worse Arthur changed the title of Bryan's song. That was basically the beginning of the end for the group." Great resulting track, though.
@jefffinn11056 ай бұрын
The rare album that has never left my rotation since the 60s. Lee's disillusionment w the 60s counterculture was that of a wary, black rocker who didn't see the hippie ethos as sincere or deep. FC album takes 2-3 listens to "get" - dark lyrics about war, racism, betrayal but set to light Muzak-like orchestra & folky guitars. No other album like it. Lee thought he was gonna die & this would be his last album. The Doors originally modeled themselves after LOVE & Lee suggested them to Elektra, ironically their fame took the spotlight/budget away from LOVE.

I first encountered a cover of this song by the Damned, and loved it enough to buy the their CD. Then I heard this original once on the radio, liked it even more and wondered why it doesn't get played all the time on classic rock radio. Brian McLean's half sister, Maria McKee is also an amazing musical talent, first with the 1980s band, Lone Justice, then in solo work.

Love was a great band. Want a drummer workout? Play along with “7 and 7 Is”. Seriously. As weird as it may seem, I have hope for your generation. A lot of people in my generation got rid of their vinyl records (I didn’t), believing “them” when they told us vinyl’s dead; CDs are the future; they never wear out and they sound better. They lied! Your generation, who had no real history with vinyl, demanded it be brought back, and damned if they didn’t listen! Damned impressive. Don’t think you don’t have a voice and can’t unite, because you obviously can and have. Remember that! Who else is going to do it?

After the original band split, Arthurly (yes, he was called that sometimes) formed a much more standard rock-sounding Love quartet/quintet before making a fine solo album "Vindicator" which sounds very Hendrix-y (even down to Arthur's vocals) but has some pretty good songs and/or riffs. As somebody commented already, Arthur and Jimi were friends and there is material available of Love Mk II with Hendrix guesting. Terrible sound quality but an interesting look at what might have been if Jimi had lived longer. Miles Davis also alleged expressed interest in working with Hendrix and that would surely have been quite something!
