While i know its only percussion i like to think that the “claps” at the start are the sounds of her gavel when she dictates a sentence. She’s genuinely such an interesting character and the song does so much to show her character in such a few beats, i was quite happy you decided to cover it, thanks a lot for the video! 😊

@@frozencrow8735 so 10 months late and I'm probably reviving a dead thread for nothing but you are correct. Her actual name is even Lavina Falcone. They even delayed her character release so it fell on her real life counterparts birthday. They fully intended this to be a direct reference to him.

God, I love this one so much. Glad you enjoyed it! Keep 'em coming! Penance or Lavinia Falcone, is a judge for a Siracusa, a pseudo-Italian city full of "mafiosi" where they are the government. The only way she can effectively carry out sentences is by having a backing of the biggest mafiosi famiglia "Bellone". But... she feels conflicted about the way "justice" is conducted in the city and she's carrying a lot on her shoulders (song really tells you a lot). She's practically the only one in the whole city who really cares about justice, a city full of armed criminals and scared shitless civilians...

Correct, except the fact that Siracusa is the nation, not the city, in fact the Il Siracusano event takes place in the city of Volsinii. I'd also like to add that Lavinia Falcone is heavily inspired by Giovanni Falcone, an Italian anti-mafia judge. An interesting fact is that his death, which happened on 23 May 1992, is on the same day of the year of Penance's release in the global server, the 23rd of May.

And I just love how the entire event's story acknowledges Falcone's legacy. In, arguably, the (second) best way they could: The founding of a new city without mafiosi in a bet for the future of the land. Also the code names of this Event's 6* operators have so much depth in them, it's ridiculous: Penance. Her conflict is reflected every time we see her in the event, her EP spells it out and a fan animation recently uploaded to youtube hits home every single point. Lavinia Falcone is a woman of much conviction formerly bound by a system that eroded the very ground she believed in. So now, after everything is said and done, she wants to atone. Laying down her life would betray all that believed in her, meaning that only her actions can "right" things. Vigil for the son of a Don (heh) who fulfilled his late father's wish of creating a city without Famiglia which he then runs (for a time), giving the name a double meaning in that he holds vigil over Nuova Volsinii and that Siracusa is on the vigil of a new day without Famiglia. I also cannot help but get the impression that "a wake" lies in the shadow of this name. A wake for his father, a wanted sleeplessness (vigil) to see his dream become reality. Texas the Omertosa is a bit of a curveball, but from what I have been able to gather it means something along the lines of "one who has sworn to remain silent", which fits her character very well. She has long wished to leave her past behind her, only for it to catch up. But even now she doesn't like being reminded of the legacy of her name, wishing for the system that she had grown so weary of to finally fall. She still carries her Famiglia's name, but will remain silent on what it means. The writing of this event was just way too good. And I might have pulled an allnighter trying to at least reach the 8th stage. I failed. XD But I'll be damned if this story about the new generation fighting for a better future isn't one of the best in the game I have played so far. Which appears to be a recurring theme. "The world the last generation created and the new generation's struggle to improve it." Some times the old guard wants to maintain it, others they try to tear it down in their own way. Which is ultimately why the Doctor's amnesia is such a clever story device. "The Demon of Babel" is no more, somebody new stands in their place and is doing their best.

This song and the character Penance is a really good homage to the real life Italian judge. The publisher also did a good job to delay the event to the death anniversary of said judge.

Honestly one of the best EPs in Arknights, by far. And definitely one of my favorites! Genuinely a certified masterclass in musical storytelling. David Lin's lyric writing really shines here, much like his contributions to Ständchen and Ensheath.

I love Penance character and this theme just perfectly represent her (well, as all Arknights chara themes do you'll tell me). And the fact that she's inspired by a real judge who also fought the mafia, Giovanni Falcone, make her character even greater

Given that Lavinia Falcone (Codename: Penance) is a Siracusan judge that clings to justice while simultaneously laboring under the thumb of the Bellone mafiosos, this song fits her perfectly. The composers that Hypergryph hires to do their character EPs continue to astound with their deep understanding of the character while also being able to put out absolutely amazing pieces of music.

One of the best, if not the best song in all of Arknights. It perfectly captures the feeling of Penance's story as a judge owned by the Famiglie. Man, the part of the event where she meets Rubio's daughter during his speech though... T_T

Penance is by far my favourite character so looking forward to this one. Will edit if I have any further comments. Edit: I love this piece so much. The choice of organ as such an imposing instrument (typically the entire building is the instrument) in contrast with the light bluesy vibes adds a lot. In the final verse the instruments ramp up but the vocalist doesn't, it gives me the vibe of internal screaming, like having to remain composed when you just wanna let it all out.

I can't believe you've listened to 49 songs and not one of them is Roaring Flare theme (Tower Fierce), one of the greatest, if not the greatest song they've ever produced, made by the same guy that did the tekken and demon slayer OST. And while talking about the peak that was chapter 8 can't forget Double Dragons, another great song but a lot more emotional. I expected better from the people suggesting songs smh
