Always love me some Brian Eno, and he did so many different things and also produced some amazing albums for some amazing bands, like the Talking Heads, the B-52s, the Cocteau Twins, etc. Glad this one got to you. He also did some fantastic collaborations with David Byrne of the Talking Heads and Robert Fripp of King Crimson, and others, like Harold Budd. But the one with David Byrne is kind of iconic in that world, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. It's actually taken from the title of a book that is a coming-of-age story about life in tribal Africa, but they also borrowed heavily from Hugo Ball and Dadaism's whimsical surrealism from the turn of the century at times. My favorite cut from there is one called Jezebel Spirit, and it has what sounds like an authentic demonic exorcism by a priest going on in the background, and it is so filled with tension. All of those guys were so creative and innovative, and to me it's in the spirit of the Beatles.

So happy for someone to listen to and appreciate Eno. Maybe on your own sometime you can listen to some albums through. Because that really is an experience. The way the songs lead into and flow from one to another. A forgotten art in the age of streamed albums.

Lee, thank you for this, and thank you for what you do. It's clear that you are on a journey, and if I may be so bold, I believe your best days lie ahead of you, and music will be your companion on that journey, and will enrich you. Life is long,. I'm a greybeard, but you have so much ahead of you, and I know that you will make something of it. Once again, thank you. You make a difference.

@@L33Reacts I bought this album when it came out (I am 66) and was amazed how different it was from his previous two solo albums. It quickly became a go to album. I'd place it in my top ten favourite albums. I don't know if you've listened to Roxy Music's debut album (1972) but that would be a great record to discover. You'd hear Eno's influence on pop music there.

One of my favourite albums. I love the melodic, yet full with electronic lush ambience. The songs are snippets too which is unusual for the genre but it works very well, constantly leaving you wanting more. I get similar vibes to Ebhard Weber, an ecm jazz fusion/ modern classical composer, I always get a similar feeling with his stuff and this album.

One of my favorites in this minimalist genre is his collaboration with Michael Brook (and Daniel Lanois !!!) on the album Hybrid. Check out Midday and Ocean Motion. On perhaps the other end of the spectrum is his collaboration with David Byrne: My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts is iconic as is The Catherine Wheel. Somewhere in between is the album Apollo. Deep Blue Day is wide and lofty. And his work with Laraaji takes Brian Jones' north African musical explorations to a scintillating and metaphysical level. HA HA I keep coming back to edit my comment. There is just so much great stuff!!!...

I had a proud mom moment recently when my 5-year-old decided he wanted 3 songs off this album on his personal playlist. If there's nothing I do right with him, at least he'll have good taste in music 🤣🤣🤣

Eno pioneered an "artificial", synth styled reputation early on, but he prefers organic instrumentation--the "real thing", for peculiar richness of tone, oddly enough. He once said something about wanting to make "paintings that move, and music that stands still". I am familiar with the phenomenon of "perverse desire", as well. He worked with another person I don't recall offhand to develop a deck of cards called, "Oblique Strategies". Each card offered peculiar advice, like, "reverse it", or "slow it down"...stuff like that. He'd use them in the studio to make decisions when he was unsure about where to take a production. His famous, "An Ending (Ascent)", is a beginning-to-end reversal of the audio of something else--play this at a funeral for an asshole and everybody will cry! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqfdgoSFds-opbc

Oblique Strategies was developed with Bowie and Adrian Belew. He probably continues to use it today.
