YOYOKA was a veteran gigger of nearly 7 years when she did this cover. It secured her place in the Drummerworld all time top 500. She has recently performed this at Whisky A Go Go on Ultimate Jam Night where she us a regular. Has just released two numbers of her own. The second is called Origin and is the first from her yet to be published album. Thanks for your reaction, it takes a fellow drummer to really appreciate her skill level.

She's really top-tier right now. She's a joy to watch... and we have the ability to watch her from the age of four progress to this current amazing incarnation. A true gem.

The fact that she can soar on this and then do so many other genres puts her on my A list.

Ian is a beast. He does a great intro on the DP song ‘Pictures of Home’. Worth checking out. Yoyoka is amazing. She’s in L.A. now. Playing live and putting out original music.

Recently YOYOKA said has been using this song as a warmup before any practice sessions she does. All her videos are one shot, one take, no editing, a rare thing these days. YOYOKA made the DrummerWorld Top 500 Drummers OF ALL TIME right around the time she dropped this video (at age 11), youngest ever to be added to the list. About the sound: Her father is a sound engineer and her kit has 11 mics. I have a personal connection to YOYOKA so she will always be my favorite, deservedly so, of course. But, prior to YOYOKA making the Top 500 list, Senri Kawaguchi held that title at age 13. You should check out her stuff also if you haven't. Senri has progressed to one of the current best drummers in the world. This was done 6 years ago at age 21 " Drum Solo by Senri Kawaguchi - Drumeo" kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGa8dat6qt5-eqs YOYOKA may watch, and occasionally comments, time allowing. But, she leaves on tour tomorrow to Japan, Boston, L.A., and Utah not returning until 3 Jul. One of the busiest young ladies on the planet. YOYOKA did a virtual colab of "Space Truckin'" with Ian right around her 12th B'day, but he put it behind his paywall (only $5).

Superb song! I love the entire album (first heard it when I was like ten years old) and it was a great comeback after Ian Gillan and Roger Glover split off...It's very much a bluesy hard rock set, with that pulsating, shimmering, beefy Hammond organ and Ian Paice in great form. 💙 The drummer here is very good, and just spot on.

Yoyoka is stunningly good. Even at 20, this would be stunningly good drumming. As far as the track goes, I've never heard drumming like that on any other song. Paice seems to have decided to do all the fills where normally a drummer would just be laying down the beat. It should interfere, but is just builds huuuge energy instead.

I love Sina's covers of Deep Purple. Sina has so much feel in her drumming. Ian Paice liked her covers too.

She doesn't play live in her videos - its playback. The videos are edited from multiple takes and maybe the audio is edited too. If you can't see it - forget what I said.

While still just 8 years old in 2018, she became the youngest person to ever sign an endorsement contract with drum maker Pearl. She VERY recently signed with Ludwig. Check out her collab covers with Kids Rock for Kids (Heart's Barracuda, Muse's Hysteria, and Boston's Peace of Mind). She was still with Pearl when those were recorded in August. They are posted to her youtube channel. More Yoyoka reacts PLEASE 🙏

@pcarhe6 ай бұрын
Up to this point, yes. She was self taught. But not only that, she discovered all bands and songs by herself (the only foreign band that her parents knew was The Beatles), and she learned how to play the songs only by ear. Later she received some education, mainly in Oakland music school. And mostly theoretical. There she was properly introduced to jazz for the first time. And only a few months later she recorded her first (of three) original jazz album, with Grammy awarded musicians. And played many jazz concerts. If you search for SJZ Break Room Ken Okada Ft. Yoyoka you can find one of those concerts. You could have sworn she was a seasoned jazz musician, and not someone who discovered jazz just a few months ago. Improvisations, solos.... (First few minutes are little out of sync)

If you like this, you should look up "Yoyoka's Birthday Sessions", which she did for her 12th birthday, with some of Japan's best session musicians and singers. They did Burn, Jump, The Final Countdown and Joe Satriani's Satch Boogie, among some others. It was just fantastic.

Another votefor that gig. 10 rock classics with top musicians recorded onetake each in one day. Some more Deep Purple too, Mistreated.

@@andrewplumb6544 That crew she had with her was just amazing, especially the vocalists doing the songs in English. And watching Li-sa-X play "Satch Boogie" was a pleasure, she has amazing talent. Her new band KOIAI is doing very well with her sidekick Hazuki in the fold. Their vocalist is extremely talented also.

My friend, priorities are what they are. I know how much it hurts. I'm 68 and have played guitar since I was 13. In 2016 at age 60 I had to sell my entire collection of guitars and amps. 2 American Strats, 2 Teles, 2 Les Pauls (a tux and a gold top), a stunning Canadian made 1981 Lado solo 3 electric and 4 acoustics. A HiWatt 50W combo, a Marshall half-stack, a Vox AC30, a Fender Hot Rod, a Fender Twin and a Canadian Traynor 30W combo. I kept one guitar, a 70s Yamaha nylon string acoustic, because if I couldn't play something every day I would go insane. BUt I did what I had to do to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. One day you'll get another kit and you'll treasure it. Bide your time, take care of business and it will happen. Good things happen to good people and I sense you are one of the good ones.

On one hand, I am a bigger fan of the original. On the other hand, Yoyoka's talent certainly deserves the attention and I actually think the mix and visuals of this cover may give you a clearer insight into Ian Paice's style of composing for drums. So it's all good :). When you get back to Deep Purple, give Mandrake Root a listen - there's a lot of exposed Ian goodness in there.
