Jimmy may not be the best but my ear would rather hear him over anyone. The chemistry between all is undeniable. Great top three btw. They were constant improvisers so the interplay is perfect. If they weren't destroyed by heroin and alcohol they would be the goats of goats. Check the guitar in No Quarter from this concert, it is phenomenal.

Wasn't that just the most fabulous version of the song. I loved when you metioned how good John Paul Jones' bass line was.... and I smiled as he was playing that line with his feet.... His hands on the keys and his feet on the bass pedals. This is very similar to the original studio version... just with the added fact that they could also improvise around as well..... I get what you mean about Roger and Robert's vocals and their way of singing... I think the word you are looking for is "sinuous," like cats...!!!

It wouldn't surprise me if you never heard this one. It only really became popular after they started playing it on youtube. Matter of fact, in response to it's new popularity on youtube, the record company came out with an "official version," this version. This is NOT the original version that was played on youtube. The original version had a minute or two of them backstage at MSG with mostly Plant talking to someone. Also, the camera angles were changed a decent amount from the original version. You wanna see some shredding? You gotta check out "Lovebites." Two lead guitarists that are as good as anyone on the planet. And there is something fairly unique about them I will let you discover for yourself.

I've always heard something a bit "exotic" in this song, specifically in Page's playing, that I can't quite put my finger on, Eastern European, North African or Middle Eastern. Normally, when I listen to LZ live performances I am struck by Jimmy Page's guitar. They were all great professionals in their roles, there were only three of them playing but it was as if I heard an orchestra of at least 20 elements and they had perfect synchrony between them, even though each performance was not the same as the previous ones. Robert Plant sang blues adapted to rock like an old black bluesman. He was unique. But Jimmy Page enriched every performance with imagination, creativity and emotions. Wasn't he perfect? Let's leave perfection to the kids who graduate from the conservatory. Every great musician and artist of the past has become immortal because he changed the academic rules and struck the ears and hearts of listeners with new sounds, or, if a painter or sculptor, with figures and different colored mixtures, our eyes. With due distance, obviously, Mozart, Beethoven, Picasso or the impressionist painters initially scandalized the public, accustomed to something else. But, even now, we love their music and are enchanted by their paintings.
