The Bad boy Irish soul singer, joins forces with one of America's finest funk/soul groups. They go together like peanut Butter and Jelly. I was in 7th grade when this came out. This was what, 55 years ago? I'm getting old. Thanks man

Not Irish. He was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The band he originally found fame in was called the Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo, but fans called them the Animals, and the name stuck. Alan Price went on to have a successful solo pop career, while Eric became a musical giant!

Ned from Spain again Dr Lee. These guys were pretty legendary with a unique sound mixing a deep Soul groove with Latin percussion, guitar, organ , harmonica, horns and woodwinds. Their jams are long simmering and smokey. Eric only stayed for a few LPs which are cool. When he left these guys continued writing great songs like Me and Baby Brother, Slipping into Darkness, The World is A Ghetto, Cisco Kid, Low Rider, All Day Music, Four Cornered Room....wait til you hear Lee Oskar's harmonica too.

War was originally an L.A. band called Nightshift (or sometimes The Nite Shift). Eric Burdon hired them, added Danish harmonica player Lee Oskar who had been playing with South African trumpettist Hugh Masekela (name-checked in the song "Monterey") and changed their name. I love that this album has a track dedicated to Rahsaan Roland Kirk (even though they spell it wrong on the sleeve) a wild and wonderful saxophonist and flautist. Ian Anderson is either a total copycat or just deeply inspired by him. Kirk was one of the first sax players to use circular breathing to create seemingly impossible solos and was prone to play two saxophones simultaneously - without it being a gimmick in any way - because it was a sound he wanted to hear. He was also blind. Maybe try his 1965 album "Rip, Rig & Panic" with a killer band of Jaki Byard on piano, Richard Davis (he was the bass player on Astral Weeks) and Elvin Jones (Coltrane's long-time drummer). Or 1967's somewhat sweeter "Now Please Don't You Cry, Beautiful Edith" (for his wife).

Story goes that Burdon's girlfriend at the time had spilled some wine in the recording studio while the guys were recording other music. Something like that. Someone spilled the wine. Anyway, the Spanish speaking chick in the background was/is allegedly Eric's girlfriend. Checkout the LIVE versions of #Spill the Wine and #TOBACCO ROAD .. Eric Burton's time with the band was brief, but he gave WAR a platform, half their albums didn't have singles that charted, but I'd highly recommend "Slipping Into Darkness, All Night Music, The Cisco Kid, Low Rider, Why Can't We Be Friends", and the list goes on, great soul / funk / pop band.

This is the old Bay Area funk, rock, Latino, salsa, reggae, R&B musical mashup era. War, Sly and the Family Stone, Santana, Malo, all super bands that mixed all these musical genres (hate using that word) to create a sound that everyone understood as just eargasmic. Eric Burdon knew it, that’s why he did it.

Higher Power, or God if you prefer, is present everywhere and fills all things. So, by that definition 'IT' is in a single doorknob, door key, atom of chewing gum, hair on a dog etc. If I am conscious of that incomprehensible Presence, then I worship it with every breath.
