Went down to NYC one day with a friend to try and buy or scalp some tickets for Dream theater with Dregs as the opener and there was nothing. Just as we had given up a 69 impala painted flat black from spray cans, blasting The dregs out the window, and smoke coming out of the car as much as smoke coming out of the tailpipe. As it passed we saw the license plate that read DREGS we said if they don't have extra tickets, nobody does. We ran into the parking garage and the guys had 2 extra tickets. It was meant to be.

Used to see these guys in nightclubs/small venues in Phoenix. Of the hundred plus bands I've seen live, some of the best musicians I ever saw.

Ahh. _Chuy's_ in Tempe in the early 80's. Post-Dregs, I saw Steve solo at _Celebrity Theater_ opening for one of Jerry Riopelle's New Year's Eve concerts. I last got to see the band in 2018 at the _Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts_ . They never disappoint.

@@schuylersouthwell2554 Chuy's! Does it still exist? Jerry Riopelle! Those were some great shows as well. Saw Emmylou Harris at the Celebrity with its rotating stage - Emmylou commented that "now I know how the record feels."

Great song by a great band: last saw them live 6 years ago ( 'Dawn of the Dregs', April 2018 ) with pretty much the original line-up (Morse, Morgenstein, Dr. Sloan, and West. Davidowski was on keys that night, but here I think it's Parrish). *What If* is such a great album. I almost cry every time I hear _Night Meets Light_ . Thanks for more Dixie Dregs.

You have to get on the Dixie Dregs bandwagon! They rule!! Rod Morgenstein is a monster drummer! I’ve seen them many times since 1982’s Unsung Heroes tour. Check out “The Odyssey” on that same album!

This is a crowd pleasing contest of hot licks between Steve, Mark and Allan. Rod is an animal behind the kit with tremendous exuberance and amazing chops. West is under-rated. When WTBS was still a UHF channel, this tune was often heard between programming.

Rod is absolutely an animal you are correct. He was eating that kit for breakfast.

I was 19 years old in '78. I first heard this on K-SHE 95 Real Rock Radio in St. Louis (the longest running Rock & Roll radio station in the world. Since 1967!) Saturday night cruising in my '69 Chevelle 396 big block, 4-speed. Having a few cold beers and smoking a few hot joints! Picking-up the chicks and K-SHE blasting "Off The Top" through my four 6x9 Jenson Tri-axe speakers! Good Times!

DREGS, DREGS, DREGS, DREGS. "What IF" is their most progressive album, and most followers favorite/Introduction album. Every Dregs Album is 100% Instrumental except Industry Standard where they had a tune "Crank-It-Up" that made the top 100 charts back in the day. Every Dregs Album has (1) Truly Classical Tune and (1) Barn-Burner Hoe-down very much worth listening to, no mater how much you hate country. The Hoe-Down Tunes are unlike anything you have never heard. As good as this album is, Dregs of the Earth, Night of the Living Dregs, Freefall, and Unsung Hero's are other great albums. Dregs of the Earth is SPOOKY...! Second best album...!

I always thought they had 4 types of tunes on every album: Balls-to-the-wall rock, Classical Influence, Bluegrass/Country, and Jazz. And I agree - not a fan of Country, _per se_ , but their genre-bending stuff is really inspired and tasty ( I wanted to reference _Refried Funky Chicken_ , but that's not really a good 'Country' example )

First saw The Dregs July 25 1979 at the Roxy in W Hollywood. Ticket price was $5.50. We got in line by mid-afternoon to get the best seats, and could hear the band's sound check. After which, Steve came outside to say hello and shake hands with all of us standing in line. Just a regular guy. Have seen The Dregs and/or The Steve Morse Band about 35 shows since, mostly at small venues. My favorite guitarist! I know you're going to become a fan as well. And PLEASE check out "Night Meets Light" from this same album. Enjoy! With Peace and Love to all! (Michael)

Steve Morse is one of my all time guitar heroes. "I'm Freakin Out" is a great song. Even though Steve doesn't really shred in it. Rod wasn't even a drummer when they started the band. They were music majors together in college. I think he played keyboards. I'm not sure though. But they didn't have a drummer and Steve asked him if he could play drums. He was like, Ya I can play drums." The rest is history.

Now we're talking! Dixie Dregs has been a favorite of mine since the 70's! Seen them multiple times (including this past May), as well as Steve Morse Band, and Rod Morgenstein in several side projects. Rod is one of my favorite drummers. Check out "Crunch," a little gem he did with Jordan Rudess. You should be blown away 🙂

Steve Morse I saw playing with Kansas in Boston. I didn't know who he was and I liked the band original guitarist so I didn't know what to expect. They were great and Morse blew us all away as we never saw anyone pick like he was. The Dregs and Steve's solo band are all top notch players. I saw them in Cambridge Early 2000's maybe?. Same bass and keys I think? They played as The Dregs and Steve Morse Band then joined together, amazing. I listened to them first time at 16 on lp and it was live, didn't even understand how good it was but loved it. This is an interesting rabbit hole if you're so inclined, seriously great players all.
