Had the good fortune to see them at the Troubadour in Hollywood in 1981. My arm was resting on the stage with Biff right over me. What a show!

One of my all time favourite bands - first saw them in 1980 and have seen them many times over the years - they are never less than superb 🤘

This Town Rocks! By Saxon. Drumming is monstrous!

My first ever concert aged 15 was in 1980 when I saw Saxon (and others) supporting Motorhead at the 'Heavy Metal Mayhem Brain Damage Party' in Stafford, UK. I remember that the screaming guitars and Biff's high pitched scream really hurt my ears but the whole experience was great.

I was at that one - the Bingley Hall cattle shed :-) Came up in a coach from near London. White Spirit, Vardis, Mythra, Girlschool, Angel Witch & Motorhead as well. Sound was echoey in that hall, but loud. It was chaos afterwards as the coaches left pretty quickly after it finished and a mate of mine missed it and was stranded.

@@SavageGrace haha cool, yep I was on a coach too from Victoria coach station. I remember they didn't allow alcohol on the coaches so everyone left their supplies in a massive pile in the yard. Some fans decided to skip the coach and stay with all the booze.

Saw them with Pretty Maids as openers. Check out Saxon - This Town Rocks from the same album. Really heavy uptempo song

Saxon fan since the early 80ies 🤘🏼. They're still nailing it, their last albums were great, and I'm counting the days til Wacken Open Air to see them again. Did you know Metallica was opening for Saxon in their early days?

Saxon were quite popular in the 1980s and I'm not sure what happened after that.

Apparently, they are still releasing music to this day! That's wild. Good for them. I'm definitely down to hear some more from them.

@@L33Reacts "The Eagle has Landed" is a bit different to their other early material, which is more high energy and uptempo for the most part. More in this vein is "Crusader" from the album of the same name. In 1980/1 they were in a competition with Motorhead to be the loudest band in the world. Before Saxon they were called Son of a Bitch. They had to change their name as they signed with Carrere in '78 and they insisted they change it to get airplay on the radio.

They signed to EMI who wanted top 40 hits and Americanized them with big hair and ridiculous clothing. They didn't want the jeans and leather jackets look. It didn't work out well.

Saxon is awesome and never stop releasing new albums like pretty much every other year, they just released an awesome album in 2024!!! Unlike Metalica, the new stuff might be better or just as good as the classic stuff. Great classic song is 747 strangers in the night, great newer song is battering ram , but so many to choose from

No shit really? Damn I'll have to check that out. I dug this, so if they are still releasing great music I'm down to hear more:)

Saxon are currently on a World tour supporting Judas Priest, and you mentioned them sounding Sabbathy... when this track was released, Saxon were criticised for sounding too Sabbathy on it, it was a departure from their normal output. Personally, I think it's helped the track age well.
