The three musicians of The Doors were talented, powerful on their instruments -and they helped with some songwriting, too. Jim M' is who most look to for the greatness of this band, lyrics, voice, and swagger - the other three deserve praise for their music grooves.

There was a great art gallery called Morrison Hotel on the first floor beneath Fleetwood’s - Mick Fleetwood’s restaurant on Front Street in Lahaina in Maui. We went there in 2017 and were lucky to see him do a talk there (the gallery was doing a tribute to the Stones there at the time so he talked a lot about them). The gallery featured mostly prints for sale by famous 60’s photographer Henry Diltz. Fabulous gallery. Afterwards, we went up to Fleetwood’s and had a wonderful dinner on the roof, followed by seeing Mick Fleetwood and his band in the restaurant. Sadly this all went up in flames in the fire last year.

GREAT reaction Lee! Morrison Hotel is a superb album, front to back, and Waiting For The Sun is in my top 5 Doors tracks - indeed, those keys of Manzarek (RIP) & drums of Densmore is melodic and heavy! Just glorious! Peace Frog is also a seminal favourite from the first half! The Spy is also a fave. Cheers!

In the 60’s EVERYTHING was geared to 007 James Bond. It was such a huge hit that everyone was getting in on the trend. From Johnny Rivers “Secret Agent Man” to Get Smart to Our Man Flint to The Spy by the Doors. It was all the rage man! Edit: oh and of course one of the best spoofs at the time, A Shot in the Dark which started off the Pink Panther franchise. And countless other spy themed movies, shows, cartoons, books, toys etc.
@genegarrett33724 ай бұрын
side note to Get Smart. I was 11 and Get Smart premiered on NBC in Sept. 1965. For some reason the NBC affiliate in Little Rock didn't broadcast it. They did beginning the next tear. Anyway, my Grandmother lived in an old hose near downtown and had one of those tall antennas outside. My cousins and I would have a sleepover at her house and early in the morning when the atmosphere was right we could pick up TV stations from other towns. That when we discovered Get Smart. Of course the humor is a tad sophomoric but to 10 and 11 year old boys it was funnier then heck. We always enjoyed that, plus the horror films late at night we weren't allowed to watch.
@midnightrambler77164 ай бұрын
@@genegarrett3372Great memories. I am a tiny bit younger than you at 64 but I STILL find Get Smart hilarious! I was only 5 in ‘65 so I was probably a little too young to pick it up from the get go, but by the late 60’s I was hooked! I lived in Toronto and if it wasn’t on our local stations we got ABC, NBC and CBS out of Buffalo NY. I don’t watch it a lot these days but I have a season or 2 on DVD that were given to me years ago. I guess I like sophomoric humor! 😂 I also just thought of the Beverly Hillbillies episode where Jethro was the “double naught spy”. Shows back then somehow managed to walk the fine line between ridiculous and hilarious at the same time!

@@BritIronRebel lol yeah I’m aware of that. I was just pointing out that the spy stuff was all the rage at the time. Whether or not Morrison was intending a double entendre and jumping on the bandwagon there, only he could say. I didn’t think he was directly channeling 007 for the song, although that would’ve been an interesting edition of the character for sure. Maybe it would’ve worked! The Ian Fleming book version of Bond was even more of a boozer than the silver screen version.

My favorite Doors album. As usual, lots of variety of sounds and styles, even just these two songs. Everyone in the band had a unique, distinctive style, and somehow they all mixed together perfectly. The song after 'Waiting For The Sun' is one of my favorites, and people rarely ever mention it - 'You Make Me Real'. A great rocker, and completely different from these two.
