I wasn’t born when the Beatles were around and split. But when I got into them I loved this song immediately. As time goes by and I get older this song transforms through time because i think of people I’ve loved and lost. The greatest songs - we can apply them to our own experiences.

To the person who requested these songs sets having a hard time. My husband died 12 yrs ago and I've lost several babies that I took care of for over a year in my nursing life. Mourning never goes away., as you know, but listening to a song or a memory brings things to the front row again. May not feel like it always but we are getting stronger everyday. It's just a very very slow process. I definitely hope that you feel some joy today and remember all the good times instead of the difficult ones. Our brain is weird what it wants us to think about sometimes. ❤As Ringo says Peace & Love to you my friend. Or sometimes John's words.. " I'll give you everything I have for a little peace of mind❤

First, Lee, definitely do not take the negative comments to heart - haters gotta hate, else I suspect they would explode. I personally am thrilled you have gone on this learning expedition with The Beatles. These are two great songs - amazing they were written by a 23-yr old (Paul) and a 25-yr old (John). And the piano - George Martin recorded it an octave lower and at half tempo, specifically so that when they sped it up to actual tempo during production it would sound like a harpsicord. The Beatles were constantly exploring different things when it came to recording. I mean, who would have imagined actually bringing an anvil into the recording studio and banging with a hammer to get that hammer clang-clang sound heard in "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"? Thoughts go out to you, patron Pat, and thank you to Lee, for these two songs today (which is the 59th anniversary of "Yesterday" being released as a single in the US).

Re your comment on the Beatles having to give up touring... Yes, you're right. They weren't being heard. It was a technical issue really, the amplification they were using just wasn't up to the job. If they could only have hung on for a year or two. By 1969 the Rolling Stones had cracked it amplification wise - and they've been touring ever since. As for your spat with the viewer who thinks you're a know all "johnny come lately" Beatles fan or whatever. Take it from me as a Beatles fan for 60+ years you don't give off know all vibes at all but what does come through is your love and admiration for the whole Beatles package, the music, the mystique etc.

In My Life by Lennon: George MArtin actually played the piano at the slow speed on the tape machine, with the slowed down recording, then on playback on regular speed the piano sounds like a harpsichord play the fast notes. I saw the Beatles Live in concert, performing Yesterday with Ringo furnishing a beat and John and George with backing guitars. Here Paul has a backing track. There ARE live clips of them doing it as a band. Making In My Life without the particular names of people and places invited any listener to reminisce with their own personal names and places. The Beatles liked to vary topics of their songs. Most unique is this idea of thinking back and loving those people and places in one's memories without taking away valuing the loves one is currently enjoying now.

Paul is playing the Epiphone acoustic he bought in America in 1964. He used this guitar throughout the Beatles and even brought it out to do this song on the Wings Over America tour. He still uses it today on occasion. You can recognize that it's upside down as it was a right-handed guitar, and it has the Detroit Red Wings sticker on it given to Paul in '76 at the Wings over America concert. He has left it on there. This guitar may be the most valuable of Beatles' guitars.
@NoviJimBАй бұрын
I love seeing that guitar. I was born and raised in Detroit, still live nearby. Pretty sure that was given to him when Wings played at Olympia Stadium in Deroit that year, which was also where the Red Wings played back then (didn't see WIngs, but I did see Zeppelin there in 75). Somewhere around that time, probably when they played here in 76, they had that photo session by the giant tire on I-94. And for a little bit of extra trivia, that tire was originally a ferris wheel ride at the World's Fair in NYC in 64-65. I was at that fair in the summer of 65 with my family. Our family had moved from NYC to Detroit in 1958, two years before I was born, and we were there visitng relatives and friends.

There are two jokes in the Yesterday video. First, George was making a joke with his introduction of Paul. There was a talent program on the BBC at the time, called "Opportunity Knocks" and that is how they would introduce the contestants., "And so, for John Doe of San Antonio, Opportunity knocks". That's why the audience laughed. The second joke was cut off. As Paul takes the flowers that John is giving him, Paul grabs the stem, and that's all he gets. John walks away with the flowers. The Beatles were jokesters. Always trying to get a laugh.

You can find videos of The Beatles playing Yesterday live with the whole band, George on lead, Paul on bass. What people fail to mention often, is that The Bealtes were a team, captained by John, co-captain Paul. They insisted all Beatles will sing on each album and virtually every show. They wanted to showcase the whole group as individual perforners, although people say they tossed scraps to Ringo and George. No matter, they wanted them involved and that gets lost after many years.

That was an Apple video. There's also a music analysis which finds 98 per cent that Lennon wrote the music. The 2 per cent caveat was that McCartney may have been McCartney imitating Lennon's characteristic chord progression. That analysis is on youtube. "In My Life" -- the wonderful "Beatles". There are three songs on "Rubber Soul" which mention death. All three written by John -- "Girl," "In My Life," and "Run for Your Life". That is indication of the greater maturity of that LP.
