I remember hearing this track at the beginning of a Kemal mix set and almost pooping myself. Then The local record shop got this in and the first record was enough to buy the pack. Then pooped self more when found out this tune was on the album. The start of glory days of d'n'b in my opinion. this and Spy Technologies were some of the best drum'n'bass ever made.

I'm also a bit of a Kemal-bummer. And I must admit, I've just listend to the BSE and S&S mutations and forgot how good this one is. THIS is the mix is you like it tech, simple as that. Digital bleeps galore, lush oldskool tech-funk bassline, and the pioneering intelligent of those days is plain to hear. simple but effective touches as ever by Kemal, note the reversed hats and the way the percussion goes from full to sparse (1:50). Sick.

@@romeisfallingagain It still amazes me no one dares to reignite the genre, but like you've mentioned, no one seems to want to produce these bits for free. Ah well, let's be grateful we actually were inside the scene the moment these tracks came out.
@romeisfallingagain3 жыл бұрын
@@ßrinkmon well, kemal has actually returned. he did a radio show summer before lockdown, and UKF just uploaded a tune he did with face. overall, the neurofunk sound is highly oversaturated. the tune he released sounds like any other neuro tune thats come out in a decade. its about a 5/6 out of ten. but, we know what hes capable of. hes just getting warmed up i guess. i was playing some of my vinyl today and forgot how banking universal project were. was listening to jackhammer and hoax on cyclon records, and it really is amazing to see how well old tunes, even if they are quite simple, hold up so much better than the really technical production stuff. i think we will see a nice revival of talent, but the djs charging stupid money needs to be choked out.
@ßrinkmon3 жыл бұрын
@@romeisfallingagain Glad to speak to a true head from the golden era of DNB. Universal Project tracks defo hold up, I remember at the local gigs when the residents first got their hands on the Hellrazor track they've released with Vicious Circle. Those vinyls were played grey. I can hardly imagine people can go wild on the tracks that get released now. Tracks back then got a character, and if you listen to these gems they have a life on their own. All tracks nowadays are kind of one day flies and kinda forgetable? Glad we're blessed with access to all these golden track from back in the days, would give a fortune to relive one of those nights 15-20 years back.
@romeisfallingagain3 жыл бұрын
@@ßrinkmon yeah, 80% of the scene now is just posers because they think its cool. everyone is too busy trying to look intellectual discussing about the music production instead of just enjoying the finished product. look at a flyer, its basically just artists names as logos trying to sell their shit. its actually quite embarrassing to look at. for me personally, teh only way to really enjoy it now is small parties with friends and loved ones and getting the decks out and having a mix.obviously now with the "pandemic" nonsense everything will remain fractured for a while. but hopefully, this will be the path back to the scene becoming localised again. at least djs wont be playing the top 40 dnb tracks and actually have to assemble tunes worth their salt for their sets or people will just leave lel

This tune is absolutely the tits. One of the best tunes from the best dnb producer IMO. The bass is so mean. The beep boop sounds are placed perfectly.
@hartSLK14 жыл бұрын
I'd say this is the most versatile Mutationz remix, but the jury's still out as to the best. Noteworthy also as this is the closest Kemal & Rob Data's "Fucking Hostile" ever got to release (Kemal basically gutted and retooled "Hostile" for his Mutationz remix).

could never go wrong having kemal remix anything. nothing touches his/their individuality in production. shimon's remix (possibly the flip?) was decent and minimal if my memory serves me right. I need to set my tables up again.

Well, given that this is a remix... or a remix (lol), definitionally you're correct and I agree. What Kemal + Rob Data tunes are you thinking this one borrows from? I've heard people mention that this was the closest thing to "Fucking Hostile", which I kinda get.
