The Godfather 1 & 2, Goodfellas, Casino. As a reference Manners was the 9th song of this 2 hour online streamed concert and Black Hole was the 21st and next to last song. Just putting Black Hole in your setlist is impressive but putting it next to last and nailing it! Two great contrasting songs. The groovy bluesy Manners is one of my favorites then for the Live they add that cool intro (which Band-Maid loves to do). Take a peek at the Manners MV (a bit fuller sound for some reason).

Bad brains used to be my top band, because they were versatile and the drummer was interesting and amazing, now bandmaid is my no.1 because they are versatile, creative and Akane's drumming is creative, versatile, interesting = the pure joy. But of course it's all the different ingredients creating the amazing art that keeps intriguing me.

Pulp Fiction, Godfather 1 and 2 and Apocalypse Now would all vie for most watched but the winner would have to be 'Eat, Drink, Man, Woman', an early Ang Lee film.

Congrats! About "Black Hole". Believe me, at first many people didn’t believe they could play it live. But they did it easily. If you can I think you can listen to the studio version because Akane's "footwork" isn't really audible here.

Misa's understanding of the bass is pretty unreal, she knows when to pick, when to slap and when to finger style and she knows how to do it very well, like pro level. And to answer your question, Goodfellas. I was obsessed with that movie, just the way it was made and how from even before the credits start all the way to the end is just so interesting and so entertaining and the constant halarious profanity, just so much fun to watch. Edit: that way you described black hole was actually pretty accurate in a metaphorical way. Song is all over the place but in a fun and exciting way.

The last 10 seconds of Manners contain music and voice recorded backwards with some curious effects. Of course forty thousand Maidiacs have already turned over those seconds to see what happened. A woman's voice (Miku?) seems to sing "I was thinking about you". Nice job! and thank you.

@@RTEcalcite01 I'm waiting for her to go totally prog down the road at some point. It's interesting that she, Misa and Akane have all gone to music school. I was immediately attracted by their musicality years ago when I first heard them. They sound familiar but with a unique approach. My father had a Master's degree in music and my mother a Bachelor's degree although she would have had her Master's had she taken her boards. I'm not a musician myself but I played in a traditional situation up to the University level. I did grow up with it both instrumentally and vocally. I can feel the talent oozing out of this band and they all just keep getting better and better. I ought their discography and believe me when I say you have a long, fun ride ahead of you.

Manners is SUCH a great song for a live performance with a crowd that knows the song well and joins in with Miku's ha-ha-ha-ha exactly on cue. It is very different than any of their other songs but that bluesy feel is just perfect when you factor in the lyrics. It does remind me of some of what Glim Spanky does with their excellent bluesy rock compositions. And Black Hole is.........well...........Black Hole, a banger.

Band Maid is a wonderful ride! My suggestions for getting a feel for their awesome diversity are: 'Thrill' MV (first hit MV, so, in the beginning...), Band-Maiko 'Gion-Cho' (adds some traditional elements), 'Onset' (Instrumental). 'Daydreaming' (more of a ballad), and any of their acoustics. Honorable mentions to 'Rinne', 'Moratorium', 'About Us', and anything Misa or Miku heavy. This is a deep well. Drink your fill.

So nice to see such appreciation for The Maids. Probably the best analysis of Black Hole in particular. Manners is a great MV. (Warning is even better). You'll learn to understand just how good these ladies are when you discover more of their catalogue. For the last 5 years, it's been Kanami's magic that's brought this wonderful music to the world. The word Genius is thrown around a lot but doesn't have the true meaning. You can definitely apply that title to Kanami. She is really is a master in the world of musical art. Yes so complex and so skillful. A great reader with a degree in economics shows her brilliance in both fields. The song composing is really quite amazing and the changes in Black Hole really is quite unique. But that's art of composing. Creating something unique that's never been heard before. I recommend you listen to Hibana for it's complexity and intricacies.

Both songs are great. Manners is a straight bluesy, kinda funky old school rocker. Black Hole is just a different, frenetic, chaotic, beast of a song. To be honest, I feel emotionally and mentally fatigued after listening to Black Hole. Akane, the drummer, said Black Hole is her most challenging and best drumming to date. The singers, at times, use their voices as instrumental fills. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, maybe it’s like traveling through a Black Hole. Good review. There are many more great songs from Band Maid, in fact, I have yet to come across even a mediocre song from the ladies...they’re the best band going.

It's a lot like 'Black Hole' only full on Demented Circus Metal. Obviously, I'm kidding. But all of BAND-MAID is different, yet similar. Fresh, yet familiar. But in this song you notice the backing tracks probably the most, especially at the end of the song. BAND-MAID always does their best to sound just like the album. If you like her Flams you should hear her gallop. It's Wizard Of Ozish because a Black Hole is much like a Tornado. Round & Round. If you think 'Black Hole' is beautiful check out, 'Blooming'. More than any other reactor, you seem to instantly grasp the magnificence of BLACK HOLE. It gets better with repeated listening. The best part is the “musical theater” vocal interlude near the end. MANNERS impresses with how this simple song starts slowly with a super-groovy drum and bass duet (not found on the studio recording), and then the musical intensity builds with each verse until it reaches a wonderful crescendo. KOBATO and SAIKI create wonderful harmonies in both songs, and as a lead vocalist SAIKI is incomparable.

I think you can understand why so many of us love this band more than any other today. They are the complete package in the manner of the greatest rock bands - in terms of excellence in rock music composition, arrangement, instrumentation, playing and performance - there are few others as complete as Band-Maid as evidenced yet this twofer. And still, this just scratches the surface of their versatility and skill. And even if you don’t care about any of that, as a listener, they just make great rock music. Even a casual listener has a great melody to latch onto. They are a very special band and why I say we’re living in the era of Band Maid right now more so than any other band - they are setting the high-bar for all rock music today, imho.

I realise you favor Black Hole after watching this, but frankly the rendition of Manners in this video sounds almost nothing like the studio recorded version. In many cases that's a good thing. Many bands, including Band-Maid, often sound better live. But not Manners. The official music video is at least 20 timers better.

@stevehall5128
@stevehall5128 2 жыл бұрын
@@DrumRollTonyReacts It's just the mix. They generally play exactly what they did in the studio (and have backing tracks for extra stuff) - except when they add in whole new sections, or completely re-imagine a song, as with "NO GOD," which is in the same vein as "Black Hole," for their acoustic concert. The "Manners" MV is well worth a watch just for the visuals, too: lyrically the song is a manifesto for the band (a more precise translation would be "Methods") and there are lots of symbolic Easter eggs to spot - plus the notorious "Mafia desk shot."
@vhaarr
@vhaarr 2 жыл бұрын
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Like the other two before me have said - no, it's mostly the mixing. But the difference is staggering. And it's not only the mixing. Although the bass is very good and extremely prevalent in this live version, Misa plays it even better in the MV. Same with the drums. The groove of the song and the 70s roots can just be felt to a whole other level in the music video. And like Bryan said - yes, their timing _is_ off in the live version. Who can blame them? They were playing to an empty room, if I'm not mistaken. An "internet concert". You can easily see that their energy levels in this live video compared to others like Domination and Freedom are not even in the same universe. Right? Although I made my original comment before your video went live, and you replied to my comment before it went live, I could not see my comment or your reply until now - after the video went live. I guess that's normal. And then there's the easter eggs that Steve mentioned. The MV is worth watching for those things, like he said.
@vhaarr
@vhaarr 2 жыл бұрын
After thinking about it for a minute, I think it might be the silence between the notes. The acoustics of the live set compared to the studio. Manners is a song where the groove is felt in the silence between the notes. And in the live environment the silence just isn't there. That, and the mix - the guitars and vocals especially are louder and the bass and drums are much, much lower. In essence.

Two sides of the multi-faceted jewel that is Band-Maid. Obi-Wan Kanami's composing skills are Mozart level and Miku's lyrics are up there with Lennon/McCartney or Dylan in levels of depth and meaning. Then you've got the best rhythm section I've seen (and I've seen Bonham and JPJ, Moon and Entwistle and Bruce and Baker) and a vocalist who sings with real passion and emotion and who can move through 3 octaves with ease ('Wonderland' live 2020, a Saiki showcase - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmXLqX-bfcekkNE ). Apparently, so the story goes, 'Black Hole' was a challenge by Kanami to Akane, after asking her if she could manage 200 BPM and Akane replying "Hold my beer..." or something similar, which was when Kanami upped the ante to 220 BPM...to which Akane probably replied "Hold my other beer. I may need two hands for that." Apocryphal but maybe (mostly) true.

@@DrumRollTonyReacts It was more a comment about her being as good as someone I think of as composing the most intricate and beautiful music ever but I totally see what you're saying - different levels of composition and content. There are a couple of short orchestral openings that Kanami has written (for the songs Warning! and Sense, for instance) but writing a ' Deus Irae' or 'Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen' is probably beyond even her high skills. Always wondered what Mozart would have made of the electric guitar and modern keyboards! Thanks for liking Kanami's new name!. I was inspired by the recent Star Wars poster and edited the image to include Kanami and altered text. And a glowing blue guitar neck! Movie: Repo Man. So, these two, expecially Black Hole, show where the songwriter, Kanami (lead guitar), has progressed to. The others say she keeps challenging them and they love it. Akane (drums) and MISA (bass) are becoming monsters. Both songs show the increasingly sophisticated collaboration between Miku (lyricist) and Saiki on the vocal arrangements. Check out Blooming. Another complete change-up and example of what they can do now.

Great react, man! Subbed. Band-Maid's a pretty diverse band, just when you think you've nailed it, they swerve a different direction. But in a good way. There is definitely a Band-Maid sound and the composition is so consistently great that it's hard to believe sometimes. Recs for next: if you like the more prog side of Band-Maid then check out more of their recent full album Unseen World (most of its album tracks are on their official site, so fair game for reactors--Giovanni, H.G.K., I Still Seek Revenge, etc.). But I wouldn't forget the many masterpieces from previous albums: Rinne, Wonderland, Fate, YOLO, etc.

I'm sucker for interesting drumming. Akane's drum fills are very creative, playful, fluid, melodic and fit the song. All five of them take the lead role and work perfectly as a team. Just listening to Akane alone is entertainment in itself but when everything comes together it's just like art. Band-Maid sound is very evocative of the song title. I love her drumming in Moratorium and Sayonakidori, in particular although I love her drumming even in the rare songs that I don't really like.

This is why I love listening to intelligent musicians react to BM. As a non-musician I actually learn stuff. I've heard both songs numerous times and yet you've pointed out some details I didn't catch the first 100 times. Also, you're delivery and descriptions are of high end quality. After doing more BM I hope you connect with some of my other favourite reactors such as Ryan Mear, Wave Potter and Dicodec. These reactors have become BM fanatics and their banter is fun to watch. I think you'd fit right in with them. More BM suggestions- try Real Existence (a hard rock banger) live and Onset ( an instrumental masterpiece) live. Cheers from Canada
