@TheWitchOvAgnesi6 жыл бұрын
The biggest thing any new drummer should take from this (and I hope new drummers, not just Iggor fans, are watching)... is that you have to find your own way of expressing yourself, and for that matter, even playing the drums. John Longstreth said it perfectly in his episode that people shouldn't be talking about how to do something "right" or "wrong" but finding the way that works best for them to allow them to execute what they hear in their heads. Once you drop the shackles of feeling like you have to emulate someone else's playing, then you will began to progress as a drummer. Now, of course people should *try* to emulate others... for the sake of learning more about themselves and learning different techniques, but at the end of the story, it's about the individual, unique drummer you have become, and the style you have developed along the way. If someone can identify you from your drummer, then you've succeeded. Otherwise, you've just become a good cover drummer.

@tomireunanen80336 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree! He was amazing back in the day with how he incorporated all these cool tom patterns to metal and these small details that made the songs very interesting even in the long run. These days it seems like he has simplified his style and even the way he plays the old songs to almost just playing a beat. The clips from the show, there were a lot of those cool snare grooves missing in the songs. In my opinion, way too simplified, because to my ears, there's less of the groove that I always loved about Igor's style.

For me, Igor and Dave Lombardo are like the Mitch Mitchell and Ginger Baker of heavy metal: they defined a genre and took fast and aggressive drumming to a new whole level. Both have latin roots, and even though such latin roots are more notably on Igor, if you watch and leasing closely to Lombardo's early Slayer beats (for example to Chemical Warfare and Postmortem and most of his snare drum fills), you can taste that latin percussion. Both amazing drummers and human beings. Sometimes I wonder it they really understand how monumental and transcending their playing was for metal.
