Being my first time on this channel, I'm disappointed in the lack of drunkness.

Note that the camera takes a 1.35 volt mercury battery no longer sold in the US, taking you into the realm of battery workarounds or meter modification to get the exposure system working. Easiest alternative is the Wein air-cell, but it's life is short. Also note that the battery situation isn't helped by the fact that the meter is always On when the aperture is set to A (auto-exposure). The tip here is that turning the aperture selector to any f-stop setting turns off the meter (but then the meter also doesn't function when you manually select an f-stop). So, leave on any f-stop to store the camera. If you want to meter exposure to manually set an f-stop, first set on A, check the meter read-out in the viewfinder, then select your choice of speed and aperture. And that dedicated flash unit: there's a unique pin in the hotshoe which links the light output of the flash to the camera rangefinder, auto-setting the output of the flash to the subject distance - very slick at the time..

Randall Stewart huh I did not know about the flash part. I’ll have to test that out if I can snag one of the flashes for the camera :P

The M5 has two match needles which have to be aligned and show you your exposure relation. You can also see which shutter speed you’ve selected in the rangefinder with the the M5. The M6 just has two dumb arrow, no information how far you’re under or overexposed.
@DrunkCameraReviews
@DrunkCameraReviews 5 жыл бұрын
I did not know that the M5 had match needles! That is very cool and yes, I agree that the M6 meter is very annoying but it is very minimalist
@VariTimo
@VariTimo 5 жыл бұрын
The M5 is still very minimalst because there just these two needles with no marks on the scale except for the bright and dark points at the end of the scale. The needle for the incredibly accurate spot meter moves freely depending on the light and the second needle for the shutter speed moves in steps as you turn the dial so you get a real sense of light stop relation on the scale. It’s very easy to overexpose Portra on purpose for example. Honestly if you can handle the size and are not one of those pretentious dickheads for whom it’s more important what the camera looks like than what photos it enables them to take with it. The M5 is as amazing and as well build as the M3. Because it’s the evolution on the M3 not an homage. If you ever get the chance to buy one with a clean rangefinder you’ll be mind blown by how the camera could have possibly been over look all this time. I bought my second one in February after the already pretty beaten up rangefinder of my first one got fucked up in the heat and humidity of the New York subway last summer. I could have gone for the M6 and I liked how tiny that was but in the end it’s a camera hanging on my should every day and the M5 is just perfectly designed. The side streps never get in way of the film advance lever and the spot meter never got me an inaccurate reading.

It will refuse to fire only in A mode only. Switch out of A mode to your f/stop of choice puts the camera in in manual mode, from there choose your f/stop and shutter speed, it will not refuse to fire.

Does the A (auto-exposure) work even without the battery? I have used my canonet only in manual mode, because I didnt find the battery.
@DrunkCameraReviews

It does not work without the battery, as the battery runs the meter which helps decide on the aperture

The blue leatherette is probably an after market modification. A web search for "canonet leatherette colors" shows a number of kits with pre-cut replacement leatherette in different colors, and even services which will do the job for you. The search terms I used: "canonet leatherette colors".

It is not I.S.O., a very common mistake, it is pronounced iso. www.iso.org/about-us.html Scroll down to where it reads: It is all in the name Because 'International Organization for Standardization' would have different acronyms in different languages (IOS in English, OIN in French for Organisation internationale de normalisation), our founders decided to give it the short form ISO. ISO is derived from the Greek isos, meaning equal. Whatever the country, whatever the language, we are always ISO. Thus it is not I.S.O., it is one word, iso

Leave it on 1.7 to preserve the battery and the aperture spring. The aperture operates on a spring to move the blades, so moving the aperture back and forth past wide open wears on the hairlike spring. I replaced mine with a clicky pen spring but it’s just better not to wear it out. Also if you can don’t store it with the film counter cocked; this happens when the door is closed and you advance and fire, rotating the wheel that has how many shots fired. Just open the door and close it before storing so the spring that controls that doesn’t wear

Also look up the difference between the giii and non-giii (the gen 2) they take different batteries The giii (shown on this video) takes that battery I mentioned. If you happen to live in pasadena ca the repair store on Colorado has them

Disgusting to hear you belching during the video. The entire ‘drunk video’ concept is offensive - especially to someone who has had issues with alcoholism. You have a lot of good information to share but I will not watch any more of your content unless you change your concept.
