Gendo didn't purposely get Yue absorbed into the 01, it's implied that she realized during the "Contact Experiment" that the only way to save Shinji in the future and in turn the rest of the world was to let herself get absorbed into 01 to allow Shinji to pilot the Eva. Asuka's mom also conducted a "Contact Experiment" that resulted in portions of her soul/psyche being absorbed into 02 but not complete so the rest of her is left a crazy husk of a person. Also, Asuka is NOT Shinji's step-sister in the alternate reality, she's your standard childhood best friend turned future love interest troupe.

The Evas are the result of attempting to clone Adam and the contact experiments basically fused human souls into the cores of the Evas. All of Shinii’s classmates are candidates which means all of them had mothers who are dead and effectively inside a Eva core.

I loved this video, haven’t laughed so much in a long time lmao That being said, I really don’t like Micky’s headcanons that go straight against the canon 😭 Asuka is literally said to be “his childhood friend”, idk where you got the whole ‘Shinji hospital scene’d his step-sister’, Gendo is not controlled by Adam, he had his agenda years before merging and just happens to sit like that, and saying that Rei is just a metaphor for Yui (specifically) leaving an abusive relationship denies them both (but Rei especially) their autonomy as separate beings, which is so sad, because Rei learning she is her own person, and becoming something more than just a reminder of Yui and ä weapon, despite not being fully human and a clone is literally so important for the show.

Ngl, I watched like 13 eps of NGE like a year ago and it was crazy and wild, but when stopped watching this show for some reason (idk y) and watched yalls explanation on what NGE is...Im mind blown lmao. Keep in mind that the author's desired ending was the end of the series, a happy ending of overcoming depression. A message to all Japanese youth who had been growing depressed, after all, the last sentence of the anime is "congratulations to all of you who made it this far". The end of the film was an ending in which the author reacted to the hatred that the community had with the end of the series. It was a "You wanted violence? So take it" message.

Nah both endings share the same message and theme. The last 10-15 minutes of the movie has beautiful hopeful scenes ( Shinji's mom speech, Rei and Kaworu scene, anyone can return to their physical forms )

Soooo one thing I would like to add to the talk is that: Yes, the mangaka was really depressed when making the show and most of it is a metaphor for all of this angust and fellings of insecurity, BUT by the end of the show, he has a optimistic point of view. The end scene of the show is everyone bein happy for shinji because he finally understand that yes, life is difficult and people get hurt and can hurt others, but even so its good to live and you can find purpose in yourself.... but he got SO MUTCH HATE for that ending, to the point that people sent hate letters and stuff like that to the studio, that he decided to make the movie as a response to that, and with a REALLY cynical and negative point of view. Shinji is pretty mutch, in the movie, what he thinks the otakus are, cowards, perverts, missogynists and hopeless. The last scene, when shinji trys to kill asuka, but in the end cant, is like a metaphor for the fans hating on him for no reason, and the despise looks and words she gives to him is him telling the audience they fucking suck for ruining what should be a optimistic end.

For the record: in the alternate life sequence, Asuka is not his step sister; it's a childhood friend living in Japan while she studies. It's just mentioned that Asuka's mom is alive, a friend of the Ikaris and she trusted them with her daugther because she ended up studying in Japan (and that's why she everyday goes to wake up Shinji). Also in that alternate reality, Gendo is not an abusive (it's not especified if he is still a distant father in some degree; but it's implied he is not, since Yui was the anchor he needed to not being a jerk with other people). Also, while Micky's interpretation is valid (within the context of the original show and films), it's also not a world born out of escapism: what happens in the series it's a world that exists out there, in the multiverse, not entirely a mental construction of Shinji. The dream sequence is a "test" where Rei offers him the chance of living an uneventful regular family life, if he choses to (as a result of the Human Instrumentality Project). Pacific Rim was stolen from Monsterapocalypse, based off of the table top game of the same name, by Privateer Press, they were going to make a movie directed by Tim Burton, but some involved in the writing decided to run off and make their own movie and it locked Privateer Press up in the courts for a very long time, pretty much destroying the first version of the game. Look at some of the models, you'll see where it all comes from. Also.. *just fast forwards anytime Micky goes on some random insane theory like he does on every show*

Two things. Asuka's 14, all the pilots are... although i suppose in Rei's case that's odd. It lines up with Misato at 29... Second Impact was 15 years before, making her 14 at the time. Second, no, Penpen staying with Misato is never explained, but she clearly said he's a hot springs penguin. He's not from Antarctica. Supposedly he was a genetically-engineered or modified test animal, but none of that's explained either, aside from his basically human-level intellect, and the fact that he has retractable freaking dagger claws on his flippers.
