Colin I cannot tell you how many times I have listened to this song it soothes my soul. My Grandson Scott Sherman plays in an Irish band here in Denver,CO and we have his Weber Octave Mandolin on order he thinks this sound can bring so much to the band. Thanks so much for inspiring us all.

Reba Sherman Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you enjoy this tune; it was certainly a treat performing it with Alan's wonderful guitar accompaniment. Best wishes with your new Weber, I'm sure your grandson will love it. They make marvelous instruments. I'm just down the road in Wyoming. Be sure to let me know if your grandson's band makes its way out west here. They might consider applying to perform at the Evanston Celtic Festival held every March.

Thank you posting the link for the music Colin, I bought it. I’m a play by ear girl but I think I can get it. I just got an Eastman Octave mandolin. Not on the same level as a Weber but in my price range and it sounds really nice. My lockdown continues as I just started chemo. This will be my 4 1/2 month lockdown/kick cancers ass project and I’m relentless when I’m learning so I’ll post this on my channel in December as a Christmas gift for everyone (mostly me). I really like this version. Thank you.

Just taking up OM (inspired by the likes of yourself). Info is all over the place online - wondering if you tune standard mando tuning or Irish Bouzouki tuning for playing in the Celtic style
@colinbotts Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, I'm just now seeing your question. Tuning is GDAE. I appreciate the Irish bouzouki tuning GDAD for its open-string possibilities accompanying, but personally found GDAE to be more versatile.

What guage of strings do you use I have a 20 inch scale model should I use thick strings
@colinbotts Жыл бұрын
I wish I could give you a good answer, but the reality is that you should probably try a few different gauges to discover what you like the best. I happen to really like D'Addario EJ80, but there might be something out there that you'll like better. Here's a link to what I use, if you want to try them: www.daddario.com/products/guitar/mandolin/phosphor-bronze-mandolin/ej80-octave-mandolin.-phosphor-bronze-medium-12-46/
