Hi Kerry I've done the CWT twice so I thought I would add my tuppence worth. Take your boots. Take a pair of plastic crocs for your camp shoes and for river crossings. I'm a wee bit worried about you using shakes for food, but you are resupplying so it should be ok. Inverie and Ullapool are well worth diverting for. Especially Ullapool which has an outdoors shop and a Tesco. ( and pubs) If you don't fancy the Falls of Glomach you could walk from Morvich/Shiel Bridge to Dornie and then up Glen Ling, I did this both times. Use the bothies, even if you are just camping outside them, being in out of the rain is great for morale. If the going is tough further north you can roadwalk from Kylesku to Scourie then Kinlochbervie. My biggest tip is to spend your night before finishing camping at Sandwood Bay. Standing on the beach and seeing the Cape Wrath lighthouse come on as darkness fell was a great feeling for me. Best of luck to both of you!

Kerry after you get to the Lighthouse, you have to travel a few miles down to Kearvaig Bothy, one of the most beautiful views in Scotland, oh yeh, the name of the man who runs the Lighthouse at Cape Wrath, John Muir.

What an exciting adventure. And so lovely that you are committed to helping Steve achieve his dream!! So sensible - just the 2 of you. The more people involved, always the more complicated it becomes! Really good luck - you both deserve it. Have a great time. Can't wait to see the videos! Oh, and the haters....... what is it with these people? I love that you and Danni still make the effort and do your trails as glamour girls!! Take the make-up - be true to yourself. :-) x

Kerry, take some midge coils, they work extremely well. That's a lot of weight you are carrying, cutting it down would be very beneficial. You really don't need all those stuffbags. A pack liner, and pack cover is the way to go. 😊
@davidalexander287 Жыл бұрын
I am thinking of a pack liner with stuff sacks. I like to keep my stuff separate. Sleep, Clothes, and Food. For me, without stuff sacks it would be a lucky dip.

Just completed the Two Moors Way with my girlfriend. Depending on what solar charger you have (I have the decathlon 15w) we took a power bank each and had phones in flight mode. The Solar panel worked really well even on cloudy days. Good luck to you both. Sounds epic. Phill
@DrunkOnWanderlust Жыл бұрын
Thanks Phil, yes my solar panel works ok but it’s heavier than a power bank and can’t be used in wet weather …. I have a feeling it’s going to be pretty damp up there 🤣🤣 so I’ll leave it this time! Massive well done for you both for smashing The Two Moors Way!! I’m looking into that one for next year, I did the Dartmoor way in April and loved it! X

Just recently started watching your videos, your pack weighs a ton so many ways you could massively bring your weight down. That said you are a wee savage on those trails so i think you will nail this not a problem. Hope you get a good break in the weather, September can be a toss of the coin weather wise. All the best from Scotland 👍🏻
@adventureawaits9034 Жыл бұрын
Would using a citronella tea candles in the porch of your tent keep the miges out? Or for that matter the smell inside tent keep them away long enough so you can unzip the door to get inside, with out the buggers following you inside? Also your make up will attract them, so what make up do they not like. I think it's great your bringing it. Because you like our very own science project. Just like skin soft that kept the flys away, you might stumble across other products that do the same, I am also sure there are other women out there that need there make up too. Besides there are two important things others must understand. You hike your own hike and its your load not there's, also a heavy pack will slow you down, especially on mountain climbing sections, so it will make it easier for Steve to keep up. All positives :)

One thing I would say as someone who has a copper spur hvul 2, they are not good in wind, which you may get a lot of at this time of year. I'm hoping the current weather is a sign of an Indian summer. Especially for the two of you! All the best with it, Kerry!#gethimtothelighthouse
@DrunkOnWanderlust Жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, Yes I agree! We had severe storms in April on The Dartmoor Way, the tent held up but I have now swopped some of the tent pegs for more heavy duty ones I think if I angle the tent with the back facing the wind it holds up better .. but one of my poles did bend slightly 😂🙈 fingers crossed it will be ok! Thanks so much for watching

I'd see if you and Steve can share some items (ie cook kit) so you aren't doubling up and ditch some of the stuff sacks - if you have time to get a nylofume liner will keep yr kit waterproof and weighs nothing!!. Good luck goggle friend (also vaseline round the eyes helps if they get sore in wind!). Also smidge. Go on Steve!

Good video - I enjoy watching these to help give me ideas. I am also looking forward to a video after you have got Steve to the lighthouse of what worked and what didn't. Hi kerry you see that wire fence in the background of this video?? I think you should gather up as much of that kit as you can in both arms walk back to that fence lean over as far as you can and let it drop over into the long grass then pack what's left bearing in mind you'll be carrying about 10 days minimum food you got to much crap. And your going into a wild space with an older guy who may not be able to help you with the weight if it's a problem. Just my thoughts 😊
@DrunkOnWanderlust Жыл бұрын
Hi Pete, thanks so much for your comment x I hike a lot of long distance trails, this will be my fifth this year. I’m used to carrying this weight, I carried 20kg on the WHW I’m stronger than I look 😜 I’ve never asked for help carrying weight, if anything …. I help other people by taking extra kit off of them if they struggle I completed The Snowdonia Way Mountain Route which is roughly the same distance but with more elevation I had a heavier pack than this x Have you done this trail? If there was any particular items in my kit you would recommend swopping out for something from experience, please let me know Thanks for watching Xx Kerry

You've gone fir reliability and comfort not ultra lightweight I want to break speed records kind of thing. Looks good to me 15kg all in for a start of trail weight is good kerry. The huel food supplements are good, high in calories and vitamins which your body will need plus the electrolytes which I swear by 😁👍 Have a brilliant adventure you two 🤗 #gethimtothelighthouse 👍👍 Be safe, have fun and see you again dizzy x 😁🤗

Oh Kerry, how fabulous - what an adventure and fun time you will both have. Can't wait to see the first video.
