Hey Dru, I want to thank you for your awesome videos! I was having a problem frisbeeing off the horns. I re-watched your video and tried the walk up and lay the rope on the horns. I did it three times and BOOM! Fixed my problem! Now I am catching almost every time! I almost didn't do it because I thought it was silly. :)

Love these videos! I am starting to rope, basically on my own and these have helped a ton! Would be nice to have a basic instructional on roping from the horse, and getting started roping the dummy while mounted. I got on my horse the other day and just walked around swinging my rope and had a little trouble getting my rope and reins organized and controlling my horse along with controlling the rope. He is an old team roping horse, so he knows the drill, but I don't!

Would you still practice the same as your videos when you are learngin breakaway roping on a claf. Or is there a different technique or different aim or lay when roping?

Breakaway roping is a little different because you have to rope the calf around its neck. That means you have to swing with the tip of your loop lower and get your bottom strand down more when you are swinging and throwing. You look to the calf's shoulder rather than the horns on a steer. A good way to practice calf roping when you are just starting is with a bale of hay and no head on it. If you can get your bottom strand down far enough on the bale to catch it, then you should be able to rope a calf. Hope that helps!

problem I have is I throw right at the head opening my loop to rope the horns instead of going right to left. I either totally miss the steers horns and my rope goes to the right or I throw and miss the right horn and my rope hits the left. what am I doing wrong here? I use a super soft head rope. any suggestions so I stop doing this?

Adam Hines just let go and put some power behind it, not too much, just lay it over the horns and pull the slack. Youll get faster after a bit.

About how far away from what im roping should i be with a 30 foot rope. Nice vids they help a lot

Mudjunkie34 about 4ft or so if your just practicing to catch but if your going for distance then as far as you can just rope fast if your going for distance. hope that helped

I'm having some issues feeding the loop I made the mistake of learning to rope and becoming accurate without feeding. But now that I'm looking for a faster time I started feeding and I realized quickly I am doing it completely wrong. I flip my hand over and that causes the loop to figure 8. If you could help me out in some way that would be awesome thanks.

Hey Joe, Feeding doesn't mean your a bad ass, it means your actually progressing and getting better. Feeding is imperative to roping better and more consistent. The main reason you figure 8 when feeding is because when we learn we often force the rope and put some whip in it.
