I had dysentery a few years back. I went from 160lbs to 115lbs in about a week. Can't eat, can't drink water(throw it up) and pretty much need an IV to stay hydrated. I laid in bed the whole time and watched t.v. I can't imagine being forced to keep walking under those conditions away from any sort of help.

They really should make a modern Oregon Trail game with a group of Climate Change Accepters who don't know anything about the wilderness attempt to travel the Oregon Trail. They will have goals - selfie with a grizzly bear, slap a moose, rock climbing, find a wolves den, drink from a polluted river, invade an Indian reservation as a "friend", capture 100 prairie dogs for the local zoo, Secret Service raids your camp at 4am, attack a rival activist group, stop people from hunting, cut fences put up by homesteaders, etc.

I love how he kept fixing the symptoms rather than the root cause for everything. "I have medicine? No one caught something from their health being low, no need for it" The fact he thought he had no use for the harmonica at the end really did match this well.

@@v1nnc A low enough morale gives them depression. It'd be fine by itself, but morale goes down more when they're depressed. A bit like they lose more health when they're sick. So if you avoid them getting depressed in the first place, you're using less resources. It's the same for health & sickness. He needed that harmonica to use on his lowest morale character.

There was an Oregon Trail game in the late 90’s that I use to play and you could do lots of buying and selling. And depending on where you were, prices were different via market. Hunting was awesome and you could sell the meat. So for me, the game just turned into how much money could I accumulate

Back in the day, there was actually a huge upgrade for Windows 95 or 98, Oregon Trail II. It was a fantastic game, you could start from Independence, St. Joseph, Council Bluffs or Nauvoo, and end up in Oregon, Sacramento California or Salt Lake City. And you could go from any year in between 1840 and 1860.
