Emu Desert in 1960 was 1500 miles from anywhere .. ideal place for the British to test their Atomic Bombs in their former Australian Colonies.. the bastards !
This clip from Channel10 shows the recovery performed by some very hard working Aussie aircraft enthusiasts :)

Worked for A68-1 owner back in 1998 as a over the road driver and heard about several aircraft from wwII that he owned. He also had General Chuck Yeager USAF Ret. on retainer to fly a couple of them at different air show around the country.

Fantastic resurection of one of the most fantastic piston planes ever made. I was surprised the got a ferry permist to fly from Coober peddy. I am often attacked when i say Australia is a < "Nanny State". I truly is a "Nanny State."

Ever since I was a little boy growing up in Australia, and for as long as I can remember, I've been in love with the P51 Mustangs.

The government knew all along that this is how we play the game for Mustangs. My opinion is that they're a bunch of rotten bastards. My hat's off to him for all the amazing work that he put into this aircraft only for it to be taken away. That's very very wrong.

What an awesome show. Too bad quality programs like this are no longer shown in favour of vapid crap like "Bachelor" or some other reality drivel.

Great story, feel sorry for those involved. Having lived and worked in Qld, NSW and Victoria (army and RAAF) and now living in Adelaide, I can relate to the petty and small mindedness of the public service in SA.

According to the Warbird Registry, as of 2002, the A681 was still airworthy, being owned by a gentlen in Troy Alabama. The Mustang is now named Jeannie Too. That was the most recent info I found on her.
