Um... You Do know that America's SMB2 was Actually a game called Doki Doki Panic that they replaced the textures with Mario stuff. Mario Bros Lost Levels is Actually the proper sequel to the first game in Japan. However at the time they thought it was too hard for American players and thus the sprite swapped out Doki Doki.

A big reason for the lack of cutscene's or story was cartridge space. Catridges at the time were usually 16 or 32 kb so every bit of memory was precious. Adding a cutscene likely meant cutting several levels and multiple enemy types and background elements. By the time of the SNES assets were generally larger so cutscene's were smaller relatively speaking. Also improved compression tools allowed them to be even smaller. In addition cartridge space wasn't as big a factor.

I think in Mario Sunshine, it was actually all Bowser Jr.'s idea to frame Mario and kidnap Peach, however it was Bowser who initially told Bowser Jr. that Peach was his mother. So it's not as messed up as Bowser using his son as a pawn in his plan.

You know, it’s hard to have an actual battle or fight with Bowser when you’re not allowed to actually touch or hit him. You take damage when you touch and hit him and he doesn’t receive any damage from any sort of physical contact with Mario.

StickCreation Studios because Odyssey was a main series Mario game, and Inside Story was a spin off. I felt excited both times honestly. Also it’s possibly because even though he was playable in Inside Story, that was 10 years ago. Meaning it’s been about a decade since we were actually able to play as Bowser in a game that’s not a sports game.

I will say I'm actually a bit sad that Super Mario RPG wasn't mentioned. I get probably why it wasn't; it's canonicity is unlikely at best, but I always imagined that when he called Mario "friend" upon entering the first zone where you will fight him, its because the last time he was seen, he had teamed with Mario to battle Smithy, and the game does give him some nice new powers, like the Hurly Gloves, and fear. Oh well. Apart from that, a very nice video.

I think a good in-universe explanation as to why Bowser "fights" were the player just dodging at first is that Mario was still fairly inexperienced. In Super Mario World, Mario has a lot more experience and guts to face Bowser in an actual fight, and this would show in most of the games afterward

I feel that no one recognizes how Bowser uses the Raccoon Leaf in the final fight of 3D World. You don't actually see it that we'll however. The best way to recognize is when he bursts out if the wall in phase 2 and instead of swiping with his claws, he attacks with his tail. It even has the iconic sound when you swipe your tail with the raccoon leaf.

The weird mix in the 3D Mario games still confuses me on why the Super Leaf turned you into Tanooki Mario when in the 2D games, it turns you into Raccoon Mario.
