Honestly? I cried waterfall like tears because of this episode. Not just because this is the grand finale of the CMC's adventure. But also because I had a deep personal and emotional connection to this one. Because when i was 12 (in 1994) I had to not just move towns but move entire countries due to my Mother. I was in the middle of school and was enjoying my life with my friends of 7 years and then quite suddenly had to leave and i never saw any of them again. So i completely understood poor Scootaloos predicament. And it was even worse for me because it was Scootaloo. I mean she is usually the tough one of the CMC's and here she was crying, having emotional breakdowns, etc. it made me SOOOOOOOOO sad. And yet i'm so glad that the episode that had the closest resemblance to my childhood was the one that ended the CMC's story.

This is a very touching moment to me as the CMC has been shown a great deal growth over the seasons. Seeing them in this finale, reminds me of my oldest nephew who just graduated from High School and is now out in the real world. That growth I saw in him as I watched proudly as he received his diploma. The story for the CMC in this episode is by far the best way to finish the CMC story arc.

I really enjoyed the episode. It was really great. As a someone who got forcefully moved around a lot as a child, I REALLY appreciated the subtle lesson at parents that it’s really not fair to make that huge of a decision over a child’s life without a single shred of input from them. I get that with job changes it often has to happen, but consulting the child is helpful for their emotions. Moving when you’re a kid is a really rough thing, and I do wish the writing staff had gone through with having her move, maybe realizing that the talents the CMC share could be spread outside of Ponyville to other places and they share letters to give each other advice on different cases. Since being ripped away from friends, schools, and communities by the adults in their life is a real challenge a lot of kids face, I wish they’d been daring, made that move, and had the lesson focused on friendship being strong enough to survive the distance and their joined cutie mark destiny still working with Scootaloo spreading the crusaders work to ShireLanka. I feel like it would have been nice for kids who are struggling with that.

Admittedly, this wasn't as tear-jerking as 'Crusaders of the Lost Mark', but the story did make me happy. If this is the final full-on CMC episode, Hasbro ended their story on a high-note. Going into the episode, I had the same thoughts that you did. I figured they would take the monumental step to break up the CMC, to teach a lesson to children that change is inevitable, and it is never easy. Instead, they went for a much more creative route, using the similarities between what Scootaloo does and what her parents do to give logic behind keeping the trio together. It was very well done. Personally, this was the most connected I have ever felt to any of the CMC. Most of their stories involve either dealings with older siblings (which I do not have), or struggles pertaining to growing children (which I am not). However, this episode, and, more specifically, your deconstruction of it, reminded me very much of when my family moved for the first time. When I was 12, my family moved from Pennsylvania to Texas. Objectively, this was because of my mother's poor health, and the fact that both my parents wanted to live in a warmer climate. My family literally spent the four summers previous to the move going all across the southern US, trying to find a suitable place to set up shop. For whatever reason, however, and with no thought whatsoever given to the impact on the children involved, we moved to a little nothing town in the Texas Hill Country. It was literally the worse thing to ever happen to me. My psychological trauma can be traced almost entirely to that decision. And I can say the first part of this paragraph with confidence because, years later when I was in college, my father apologized for moving us. It provided no positive benefits for anyone, and had a great negative effect on my psyche and well-being. I hold nothing against the choices made by Scootaloo's parents, though. Their job requires them to travel the world, and it was probably made in Scoots' best interest that she stay in Ponyville with her aunts, rather than travel with them. And though their reason for bringing change to this set-up is very sound, they obviously had no idea of what Scootaloo meant to the city of Ponyville, and really to Equestria in general. It is that parallel reasoning that seals this episode as an almost certain Top 5 of the season, and, arguably, the best CMC episode.

This episode was heavy with emotion! First Scootaloo is ecstatic to see her parents and that she’ll get to see them more, then devastated that they are going to take her away from Ponyville, and her friends, etc, and not just a train stop or two away, but to a location that only gets the train once s month!! The resolution is satisfying; nice to see parents learn a lesson, one not revived in a negative portrayal, and it being the stated lesson, not just implied. Adults are still learning after all! The only open ended CMC related plot is exploring their unique parts of their cutiemarks. But with time running low, I doubt it will be addressed directly in show.

I thought that, a kid doesn't have control over this. And having the CMC finding an out sends a bad message to those kids who do face a move. And maybe that's still true. But you highlighting the parent's situation made it clear how different it was from mine. We moved so much because of turmoil with my parents' lives, but it was most important that we stay together as a family. Absentee parents brings a different angle into it.

This was my favorite cmc episode after Crusaders Of The Lost Mark, and I’m glad that Scootaloo’s parents still love her enough to leave her behind with her friends and aunts. I’m also glad that they addressed the fact that allot of kids sometimes feel that they don’t have any voice in their parents moving away and they have to leave their friendships behind, it sometimes hurts the kids because they have to leave behind friends and close relationships that they had built up. May this episode go down in history for the final season. I was thinking that they’d bring in a character that has trouble getting a cutiemark and the cmc are frustrated enough to argue about the problem.

Don't know what I was hoping to see, but was rather upset with Scootaloo's parents. Just enough contact that she cares about them, but absent most of the time to the point that those that can't directly ask her think she has no parents just show up and declare they are taking her half a world away to somewhere with limited trips and communications to all she has ever known and only a couple days to get ready without even asking for input? They wern't there when she got her cutiemark, wern't there when she came to terms with likely never being able to fly, gone so much that she chastised Rainbow for being upset over an excess of parental support when she (Scoots) had none show up at a point when Scootaloo has already, in Equestria's age fluid way, started on what seems to be here career and likely nearing the end of her formal schooling and try to totally disrupt her life!

They made a couple of episodes in the past where they gave us hints that Scootaloo's parents are dead (for example in parental glideance she said that no one was there for her (or something like that)), but now they are saying "Oh they weren't dead, just travelling a lot" What is going to be the "excuse" for the apple parents? "They were just in another farm because of a job and they left the kids here with their physically disabled grandma" or what? I'm confused. Why did they left Scootaloo at Ponyville at the first place? If the job is too dangerous then just hire a babysitter in a temporary house that is close to their workplace (I know that they are explorers and they work in the wild but they can just put her in a house next to the jungle that they are working at (but if they did and the place is Ponyville, then why did they visit her just a few months?(I'm assuming months because she had to write letters (and if they are away for just some weeks then the letters are pointless (and why am I making so many parenthesis? (please send help!)))))). I'm happy to see Scootaloo's parents and see that they love each other (for a long time, I thought that they didn't show up because they are bad parents, but this episode made it clear that they have a good relationship) but the backstory seems a bit fishy to me. All those years without showing us or telling us anything useful about the parents and now they show up and IT IS A BIG DEAL............... for 4 minutes but then we move on because we have a lesson to learn. The fandom was pissed when the mlp team showed shining armour in the second season, because "how could they not show this important character earlier in the show?!?!" and now they are okay that we saw Scootaloo's parents in THE LAST SEASON? I'm not mad at the fandom, just confused a little bit.

I noticed something in this episode. The reason Scootaloo cant fly. (Something I'm sure others have seen and made videos on but I havent been able to find them yet) Its her genetics. (Keep in mind this is strictly speculation and theory territory. ) Now, to get everyone on the same page. I've always assumed that genetically Earth Ponys are at the bottom. (or bb if you remember that) With pegasus being a more dominate trait. And unocorn being a more dominate trait than the pegasus. (Correct me if Im wrong) Well, theres another genetic trait that Ive never really considered. The Clydesdale Earth Pony. Weve only seen a hand full, including Big Mac his father, and now Scootaloos dad. (There are others I know, but the point is they arent very common) To top it off, they are all Earth Ponys. So, seeing this episode, it made me consider that the Clydesdale trait can effect offspring. The only children of Clydesdale ponys are the apples. Big Mac carries on that trait visually, and has proven to be increadably strong. But Applejack has also shown imense strength even though she doesnt have the Clydesdale features. Bucking a multi-ton bolder in the season 7 finally comes to mind. As for Applebloom, shes still too young to say. Thinking back on this made me consider Scootaloo. Her mother is a Pegasus, which its trait dominates the earth pony trait. But the Clydesdale trait pushes through, keeping her grounded, but could give her great natural strength like Applejack. Just something to think about. And Dr. Wolf, if you find this interesting, feel free to make a video on it.

When i first saw that they were going to show us Scootaloo's parents, i was in shock and disbelief. Why would they show us this NOW of all times? Scootaloo is supposed to be an orphan and they REALLY missed an opportunity to explore that in an MLP way. Then i thought they were going to use it as an allegory for moving on, but the didn't do that either. The only meaningful message i can glean from this is that we the fans are like Scootaloo's parents, we may be leaving her (the show) behind, but she and the show will always be there. It'll never change, and if we want to revisit it again in a month, then we can, we can always come back to revisit it as many times as we want.

@btamamura And yet they NEVER showed us any of her relatives or even ever brought them up in passing. We've seen literally everyone else's family that matters already. Even the student 6 which was introduced really late in the show has prominent showings of their relatives, but an important reoccurring character that we've seen since season 1? She has to wait until like the next to last episode of the entire show? I still feel like they missed an opportunity here. I'll be honest in saying that i have no idea what they could have done with her had they did a story about her being an orphan, but i'm sure they could do something amazing with it like they did when they (kinda) tackled death with tanks for the memories.

Something I noticed was that Scootaloos parents have no colors in common with her. There were similar colors but in very different shades. I feel there is some sort of symbolism here though exactly what I'm not sure. Maybe as a representation of how disconnected the three have become? All throughout the episode, Scoots parents are told over and over how much she doesn't want this but they keep forcing the move because they think it's for the best. But that wasn't what was best for her. It's like when Rarity had to come to terms with the fact that Sweetie isn't a foal anymore. She has an important job and responsibilities and even has new interests. I dunno, that's just what I got at the moment.

The episode was amazing, it definitely brought up a good lesson about moving on. If you asked me I didn’t expect scootaloo’s parents would be explorers adventuring around the world. I honestly thought they were doing the exact same thing like they did for Apple jacks parents. Then again one character losing their parents is enough. I have to admit I never experienced moving away from my friends before because me and my mom would just move from one house to another in the city even moving in with my stepdad back then there wasn’t much change. But there was one time in elementary school that one of my friends did move out of town by the time I was in fifth grade. I have remember we were thick as thieves back in the day. I must admit seeing episodes and movies that bring up this lesson about moving on I can definitely understand them because that could’ve been me and Even though it was moving from one house to another in the same city and I was thankful for that. I’m really glad that the MLP staff actually added a lesbian couple in the show because it showing that everyone is starting to accept these types of couples and I’m really thankful for it. With each of these episodes airing I’m really looking forward to what is going to happen at the end. We’re approaching the endgame doctor be ready for what is to come.

It really hit me when I read the title episode. I've been a fan of the CMC for a long time and I think this was a pretty satisfying ending to their arcs. They've certainly come a long way since season 1. Back then I thought this was the episode they would finally get their cutie marks, but they got them midway through season five. The voice actresses Michael, Claire, and Maddie matured over the years voicing these three fillies and I'm sure they'll be moving on to other shows and projects, but it's hard to see them go after the show ends. I'll truly miss the CMC and all their wacky adventures. Farewell, Cutie Mark Crusaders.

One somewhat forgotten element of this episode that I love that got overshadowed by the parental problems thatis how this episode briefly showed us Ponyville kinda bands together to help take care of and raise Scootaloo. Western communities have often lost that kind of communal raising of children, and it was great to see it in action. It feels very Equestrian. But the main subject was just as much of a blast. Really, the idea that children aren't pets to be dragged around by their parents' whims is one that needs to be told more. Children develop their own lives as they grow, and you as a parent can't just expect them to uproot all of that just because it is convenient for you. Scootaloo finding a compromise that let her stay with the life she built was the most satisfying way this episode could end for me. Also, move over Twilight, two Best Aunts Ever have come to claim your title.

Plus there's the fact that Scootaloo's aunts didn't even live with her until the end of this episode - she had basically been raised mostly by whatever local adults weren't busy. And her parents claimed to be concerned for her safety to justify taking her away from the ponies who had ACTUALLT served as her family - yet the first we see of them is the accidentally releasing a dangerous animal into the Ponyville schoolhouse. Having Scootaloo actually move away would have come across as less "mature moral" and more "unforgivable dick move".

One detail I thought was interesting was that scootaloo’s dad is an earth pony, is that the reason scootaloo can’t fly?

I wonder if genetics is a factor in Scootaloo's flying problems. The Cake twins don't seem to have any issues, but those two haven't really grown at all during the shows run

Let's break this down for a moment. The episode was a cold reminder that the CMC won't always be together, although that is where their greatest strength lays. One day soon they'll be all grown up and Independent working jobs as well as serving the community as the CMC. We get a look at just how much we have seen of Scootaloo growing up that her parents don't have the faintest clue about but are only just beginning to realize that their daughter is in many ways far more important to Equestria than they are. The Last Crusade was both the possibility that they might be separated, but also a summary of the last CMC centric episode, at least as far as being all about the CMC and not something outside that. I would still love to have seen an episode where the CMC step up to or into a position that puts them directly in line with or on a form of confrontation with the mane 6, but that's not going to happen. (now I think about it, the CMC getting a map mission to fix a relationship problem with the mane 6 would have been yet another cool way to do that) Ultimately this really was a good episode, it just would have been nice if there was a follow-up couple of episodes that might have developed how Scootaloo and her parent's relationship develops as a result of them being closer, but having to start over as they get to know each other properly after having been away for so long. So Dr Wolf, enjoy reflecting on the Beach. This episode is definitely worth some reflection on. There is so much in this episode. What surprised me the most though was seeing Trouble Shoes. I don't think we've seen him since his original episode?

06:08 Nope. You are WRONG. Scootaloo´s parents came NOW back to Ponyville not to "take their daughter" WITH them, but to transform _their_ HOUSE into money [that they NEEDED in order to buy _another house_ on Sri Lanka for themselves]. -> The fact that they DO love Scootaloo (and MAY actually *desire* her to come to live _with_ them) is totally irrelevant. They finally got "a permanent job" on a fixed, civilized location (no more random long distance travels through unexplored, wild lands); given the fact that there is a train route to that place [plus "safe enough" that they consider Ponyville WORSE for their daughter]. -> They are likely NOT "young adults" anymore [their body shape sugest their current age to be somewhere in between Cheerilee & Cup Cake]; so while they are not "retiring", this is probably their "middle age crisis" [with their "youth" about to end, they want some stability & peace]. But even after the whole town convinced them that Scootaloo was "non-negotiable" (aparently they did not REALLY believed the "job" of the C.M.C. was important enough until the local Mayor & Princess said so), there was still the problem of her ACTUAL living place [since they already sold her home and still NEEDED that money for their own new one]; if it was not for the personal SACRIFICE of the sister of Scootaloo´s father [who had to move to the town, leaving behind "her place" and friends living near her (sans her couple who moved with her)], they would have had to take Scootaloo anyways [at least for some time, until she could manage to live on her own].

It was an amazing episode. I how ever, even if they proved, that they didn't murdered Diamond Tiara, she should had a character arc after her redemption, or at the very least, get a role or few lines in this episode. After all, her antganism pushed the CMC forward and redeeming her gave their cutie marks

This episode gives me mixed feelings. Overall, it was good. I laughed so hard when Scootaloo's parents turned out to be the Crocodile hunters. It was nice to see the characters they've helped all together at the end there, and the subtle/not subtle inclusion of her aunts was a nice touch. However... There is one line spoken earlier in the series that keeps me from truly enjoying it. In Parental Glidence, Scootaloo admits to Dash she had no one tell her she could be the best at anything. That tells me that, not only are her parents really neglectful of their daughter, but also her aunts. All four adult figures in Scootaloo's life not only leave her alone for much of her life, but they never once encouraged her or praised her in that entire time? I know I'm reading to much into this and maybe if this episode aired earlier in the series, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. But she seemed to be more excited to meet Rainbow's parents then she was to see her own, and that, for me, doesn't really put these characters in such a good light.
@VentesDemon5 жыл бұрын
@Mary Hamilton That does makes sense. Thank you for your view on this. While I agree context is key in viewing the two styles of upbringing, I still find it hard to believe that Scootaloo would say that in such a way unless there was a kernel of truth to it. After all, she never once said or even implied her family had any kind of effect in her life, let alone actually say she had any family. I realize the writers and higher ups in Hasbro have a big influence regarding the direction the show goes and what episode tackles what. Had they at least mentioned her family earlier on, I wouldn't be so conflicted about this.

Something I am enjoying about the arc conclusions is that they are wrapping up FiM. Not, G4, narratively speaking. Scootaloo and her friends are still a club. There is room for more adventures, whether through Boulder or us. Celestia and Luna are still out there even when they retire, and I doubt they will ever stop keeping an eye on things. Twilight and her friends will still be around. They are concluding the story of the elements of harmony, of the tree, closing that book that was opened in s1:e1. But, they leave the world open for future adventures. As an edit, I feel like this was a good natured ribbing too. The CMC didnt break up. As they declared, "CMC forever!" It's as if the writers are teasing us, saying "Hey, you didnt think that just because this is the last season this is all over, did you? That we would take all of this away? No. We are just opening up the future." This season I thought would be a farewell to the ponies I love, but it is turning out to be a farewell to DHX. My ponies are still here, now with Boulder. But I didnt realize how attached I've become to DHX, and their team. It is heartbreaking saying goodbye to them.

Scootaloo used to be a kid trying to find her purpose and a place to belong along with her friends that were looking for the same. It has all grown into something so much bigger, helping other people find their purpose. She and her friends know they can't live their lives being little kids who go with what adults tell them to do. They have to grow beyond all that everyone says, not just for their sakes but for all of Equestria, we all do.

This retrospective on the ending of the CMC saga reminds me of the song "Scootaloo's Adulthood" by Ponyvisation. His piano improvisations are masterpieces and very emotional, very fitting for this episode, as the song has the CMC theme mixed in there

My only complaint with this episode is that I think Rainbow Dash should have played a bigger role in the story, what with them being honorary sisters and all. Otherwise, I'm content. Scootaloo finally has a family!! No more living under bridges for our favorite orange chicken. #Scootalove ftw. Now I just need a Sweetie Belle singing episode and I'll be able to die happy. :P

I know the feeling, however I am glad they are going out while the show is still good. Some franchises milk every last season until the fans are sick of it just to rake in the cash, but in MLP's case they have opted to let it end on a high note and start a new generation.

To quote a famous writer a story always needs an ending but that ending is just a new beginning. So if season five is just this season only ten years later or something then we will see them again or well I am sure fan fic writers will keep this world alive for a long time.

I saw this for the first time yesterday and I know how Scoots feels in this situation. I understood more about the parents point of view because we moved when I was 19 but I did want to stay where I was. I could not stay because I didn't have a job keeping me there like Scoots does. I get to visit about once a year and I can use technology to keep in touch with my friends but I haven't seen one of my friends in person in about 4 years. Our schedules just haven't opened up at the same time. I just know that when I do see him, I will tackle hug him.

this feels like an End of an Era and yet the Best episodes of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is with the Cutie Mark Crusaders and yet I was happy and sad at the same time for Scootaloo but at the same time I'd was excited we'd finally got to see Scootaloo's parents where it kind of reminds me of Arnold's Parents from Hey Arnold if anyone remembers that classic 90's Nickelodeon Cartoon and if anyone remembers seeing The Hey Arnold Jungle Movie where Arnold and his friends have to venture off into the Jungle to find his parents and got reunited and it was a satisfying way to end the series and The Last Crusade truly did felt like The End to there Stories and yet with there season almost to it's end I'd wonder what the series Grand Finale to My Little Pony Friendship is Magic and I'd just hope it will be a great conclusion to the series of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic

Another great outing where the main conflict and resolution were done in a way very few would have considered. But I don't have much to add to that conversation, as worthy and in depth it likely has gone already in this section/videos to come. The other thing I have to say is THIS is how you do relationships regardless of its orientation. Yes, it is a gay couple. But so what? They act like other couples and treat Scootaloo well, they're a plus in my book.
