It's here, and this is going to change everything. The ICS model IC 022 EVO is going to be the entry into OG Spec dry ice cleaning, and one that will work in your garage without spending over $100k on a setup. Even with our underpowered Fiac air compressor, it functions pretty darn well. It's clear to me that this machine is going to be a workhorse when it comes to cleaning trims, small parts as I take them off, engine bay detail, and general maintenance cleaning. Scott from Dryce Nation walks us through the use of this machine.
The IC 022 EVO will be sold exclusively through ObsessedGarage.com and is available for pre-order here: www.obsessedga...

If you want to solve your dry ice storage issue, and you don't mind spending even more money, buy yourself a -80C freezer to store the dry ice. We use one in our laboratory at work, and it keeps the dry ice for weeks rather than days. This way you could order a smaller amount, and not have to worry about it sublimating within a day or two. Its not a viable solution for large quantities of dry ice, but for 40-50lbs it would work well. Its not a cheap solution, but it is a solution.

I don't understand the attitude of people that are being critical of this because it is too expensive. If you think it is too expensive, it isn't for you and no one cares what you think about it. This is for professionals that have the capability to become extremely profitable with equipment like this...or for rich dudes that have the means to buy it. Can I afford one? Heck no but I'm not crying about it or complaining because some rich guys can. But if I was a younger dude running a detail shop, I would find a way to finance it and put it to work so that it pays for itself quickly. Who knows...maybe in 10-15 years the costs on these will come down and it will be just like buying a pressure washer.

Get an old deep freezer and put the 12 x 12 cube in it. I worked with dry ice you can get it to last a long time. We never plugged it in. We mixed it with alcohol and it evaporates when it hits the air. Notice the fluid under the ice grater. What was that? Are you spraying ice pellets at a size of a pin? I think not. It is an insulated box to keep the ice cold and a mixing process with air and an orifice of dry ice liquid. Never wet because the ambient air evaporates it. It can make a thin peice of steel real brittle. This is a heat treating process. Notice he said it will not remove fresh grease. This is a cleaning operation not a striping operation. I can see this as a great job operating system. You can go from job to job. Word travels fast. You could set up outside and all ready. I could see a small shed set up. Now the BIG ISSUE, the PRICE. This will be the game stopper. No way is there $10,000 in that. I am talking about this unit in video. I am for capitalism, but show me the build price. Man again this could be a huge money maker if you count the little car shops.
@ScottAles
@ScottAles 3 жыл бұрын
The dry ice used in almost all machines worldwide comes in a 3mm pellet form. No cubes or blocks. Using a freezer helps but doesn't prevent full sublimation. But as you correctly stated, it slows the process down a lot. The water under the machine and near the storage container comes from the frost or ambient air forming frost from the relative humidity in the space. Even though Matt's shop has a low percentage humidity, it's still 35-40%. Like when you set a glass of ice tea on a desk. It will sweat. This small machine does not have the power to remove thick grease or cosmoline. Our larger 310S version will do this easily. We have a fully enclosed DryceLab with air filtration and climate control. Everything works much better in this space. Ah.. the $10k price! Too much? The lowest cost alternative before Matt and I offered this machine in the US I could find was $20k. We knocked it down a fair amount I would say. if I gave these away for $0.00 you still need the compressed air solution. Another $15k. And creating the infrastructure to bring things like this to market involve high risk, exchange rates, large purchase quantities, ( I bought several hundred thousand $ worth to start) and a proper marketing platform that is advanced like Matt's. So yeah, these things cost money to create and present. We've sold 36 machines so far this year with many of our clients working them daily at $150/hour. Just to put it in perspective, if someone borrowed $10k for a year, the interest cost of 5% is $2.00/working day or .26 cents an hour. We typically use 25 -30 lbs of dry ice an hour or $18.00 at the higher number. The larger machines which cost up to $45k and require $35k compressors charge $250/$300 per hour. So the EVO at $150 is roughly half. It's okay to sit on the sidelines till other machines come to market for less, but the benefits for those persons will have to wait also. That's why I sprung for the $80k+ big system and launched the brand 2+ years ago. www.drycenation.com My choice was to charge enough to be fully available to assist in every aspect of the machine and its' use. Since nobody understands what I have learned over the last 2.5 years. That takes time, time I'm more than willing to invest for those who make the purchase. Once there is a company who sees a larger market opportunity, a production line will lower the costs and I'll no longer need to support people one by one. So my margins will also be less. In 1990, the lowest cost pressure washer you could buy was $1,600. Now they're as low as $50. But that takes a huge manufacturing line to reduce costs. I'm fiercely supportive of the folks who purchased already and look forward to many more. I remember buying my first Segway, they were quite expensive and required us to actually take a training class in person (Disney for me) before taking delivery. Think hoverboards now! Hang in there, the costs and ease of entry will come eventually!

I have a question on this, if you know. I renovated an armored personal carrier for the local Sheriff's Office many years ago. Trying to get thing repainted I was looking for ways to get the very old paint removed and contacted the Army for recommendations. They told me when they renovate tanks and APCs on the depot level they use dry ice to blow the paint off. They said ice pellets are shot into the paint and as it breaks through like sand blasting does, it gets under the paint and lifts it off in huge sheets as the dry ice expands. I am guessing what they are doing is a bit more powerful than this, but I am guessing it is the same type of thing just does not blow the paint off. Am I right?

From the 1 hour mark you mention white stuff on the rubber, that is bloom and a major issue within the industry, you're not going to get it off with WD-40 as it's a result from the production process. I'm also assuming those parts have particulated coating, has a texture and not smooth. If it's particulate it's most likely a GBIE coating(great stuff, high quality, excellent performance). If you're just cleaning it a few times, ie not hundreds I'd probably use MEK to get it clean. That should not harm the coatings or lead to failure as long as they were properly applied in production, cured properly, and have good adhesion to the substrate. If you'd like to discuss more reach out to me.

Can you not just keep some dry ice in the freezer? Surely it would still sublimate but at a slower rate?

Can we safely use it around fresh paint? They leave an enormous mess and if I could use this on rubber gaskets instead of my plastic razorblade or steamer, that'd be great.

Yes, it work wonderfully on the entire exterior trim and does not harm the painted surfaces. The only place to be careful is the glass. If there is a chip or crack in any glass, the solid CO2 will fill that void, then sublimate into a gas which is a thermal expansion issue. Basically, if you get too close to the chip/crack, it will crack more. So I stay 1' away from the surface of all glass products. After 27 months and 120+ cars, I finally found out the hard way a few weeks ago!

I'm curious why these generally cost $100k. Is there certain parts that are made out of exotic moon rocks or do they use some manufacturing process that costs a lot?
@ScottAles
@ScottAles 3 жыл бұрын
Bigger dry ice machines cost $45k, then the compressed air systems to power them are $30k, then the dedicated space to control the noise and dust plus the two post lift and a bunch of support pieces add up to that big number. Ask my wife, she wrote the checks.

I was using another brand machine when the supply hose blew off. It apparently wasn't crimped properly from new. Raked across my arm at zero clearance. The other time was when I was cleaning a small part, I didn't wait for the gun to completely finish purging, (again, another brand that delays when you release trigger more than ICS) as I moved the part with the WRONG hand I shot myself again, zero clearance. Like a pressure washer, see what happens if you spray your wrist at zero distance using a zero tip. Versus 1-2'. In the end, everyone is simply going to be a disbeliever like me until you actually use the machine. Human nature, all good.
